Mouse questions; sensitivety, resolution, 1:1, etc...

Its sayd that the lower the sensitivety, the higher the accuracy... but lets skipp that discussion now!

Anyways, I wanted to set mouse to 1:1, so I put the ingame sensitivety to 1, and my mouse propertyes to this:

Actually... all I did was dissableing acceleration.

Ingame however, it felt VERY new to me... I'm used to like 3.5 or something...

Anyways, what I want is info on; what is acceleration, what is speed, what is ingame sensitivety, and what is resolution?

How do all this work together, and how do I optimize my mouse settings?

Thanks alor for your time!

Acceleration is the degree to which your sensitivity changes according to the speed at which you move your mouse. This means if you move your mouse 10cm slowly, then 10cm quickly, you will turn more the second time. The higher the acceleration, the more pronounced this effect.

Sensitivity is the distance you move your mouse to turn a certain amount, in arbitrary units (I assume). 10cm at a low sensitivity will make you turn less than 10cm at a high sensitivity.

Assuming you are using Mouseware (can't see any picture), speed is the same as sensitivity.

If you have "independent" mouse drivers jack them up all the way

      execute CPL mouse fix http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/files/82/

      Turn off any other accel

Set your in-game sens (sensitivity adjusted in either the game or your user.ini file)(located probably c:/ut2004/system/user.ini)

mouse resolution (dpi) is how precise (more or less) you mouse views the surface it is sliding across. Just like your screen... higher res means more pixels in the same area=the more intricate your movement options.

(this info is to the best of my knowledge)

Actually, I'm pretty sure speed in Mouseware alters the dpi of the mouse. Basically, that means that - while changing speed in Mouseware does inadvertantly alter sensitivity - changing sensitivity in UT2004 would retain the current dpi. Thus, if you want a low sensitivity, it's more precise to have high Mouseware speed + low ingame sens, as opposed to low Mouseware speed + high ingame sens.

With my MX518, I have it set to full on 1600dpi + max SetPoint speed (SetPoint is the new driver software for the MX518; Logitech seems to be leaving Mouseware behind), but my ingame sensitivity is 0.08. With the MX510, it was 0.20.

          If you say so.

As Virax said, set the sensitivity as high as possible in your mousedrivers, and set it to whatever you like in UT2k4.
Don't bother with things like pixel accuracy: it won't improve anything.

That alters the DPI??? Hmmm, any way to jack up the DPI without having the mouse too fast in Windows?

Not that I know of - I just got used to it being really fast in windows. However, if you have a MX518 and don't need to bind ALL of it's buttons, you can keep the two set to +/-400dpi for on-the-fly dpi changes.

                    Thanks alot!

I sat all to max in mouseware now... and the mouse cursor in windows is realy on steroids!

However, I put the ingame speed to 0.25 (wont let me put it lower), and it felt akward at first, but ****, didnt take much time to get used to it! And when I did... I MUST admit, even tho I'm a little anti pro-with-your-fancy-mouse-tweaks... that it DID improve my accuracy... ALOT!

Besides, I have taken the big step, and kicked out the old WASD, and traded it with the new and improved ESDF... and added singel weapon binds to all my weapons!

The game feels... so much smoother now...

... one last thing! Is the new "mouseware" thing for the MX518 useable with the old MX510? And is it realy nessesary? :weird:

I think SetPoint is MX518-only, and I think that while not actually necessary, it's a great deal better than Mouseware.

If you want a lower sensitivity, you can use the setsensitivity command, via the console. It will still SHOW 0.25 in the menus, though, even if it's not. Like I said, I use a sensitivity of 0.08.

Aaaaah... I tryed a million commands... no one worked!

I think 0.25 fits me perfectly tho, but I whould like to lower the menu sens a little... is that possible through commands aswell? :weird:

Hmm... I suppose you already tried the "Mousesensitivity (Menus)" variable in the input menu?
If you did and it's already on 0.25, you could try to edit your INI file to lower it further.

Will that CPL fix work with the razer diamondback drivers?

                              Aight.. I'll check the .ini!
