Oh, thats the extreme edition. Gotcha.

That article says you could spend 1/5th the price on the CPU and get the 3.0EE and just overclock it to 3.7.

At the top end, there's a certain amount of parity between Intel and AMD. Intel leads in some areas (video rendering, mp3 conversion, any streaming type applications) and AMD in others... especially games. So your rig would beat mine sometimes and mine would beat yours sometimes. But if you're interested in what is near and dear to all our hearts then check out this review. Very close, but it shows your processor trailing mine by around 7 FPS.

              Cheers.

Point taken, but the 660 is NOT the extreme edition

Also, I don't overclock (bad for warranties)

Then why does the link you gave me say "660_3.73EE"?

Doesn't EE stand for extreme edition? I think I'm confusing myself with semantics but I 'll look over the article again and straighten myself out.

Edit: Ok, I think the EE stands for a faster FSB?

**** dude, go for the 3.0EE and overclock the hell outta it.

It's a shame he doesn't overclock. If the P4 overclocked significantly more than the AMD (like they have in the past), then your statement could be void.

                      [Stoker6]

That is ONE review on TWO new Intel processors:

                      1) P4 660 = $600

                      2) P4 3.73GHz EE = $999

                        AMD's clock better right now - I've got a 30% OC on my AMD 64 3200 - from 2000MHZ to 2600MHZ.

-Which is the about the same as a 4GHz pentium 4.

                        But it was only £105.

                        (but watercooling was another £200)

                          Well, just my $0.02...

I just replaced my Pentium 4 machine with an Athlon64 machine.

I just don't think that for games that Intel has anything worth buying when compared with the performance of the Athlon 64.

And, this machine is the first AMD system (main system that is) that I have ever had. So, don't dismiss this as fanboy talk.

Also, I don't think you can overclock a Dell. I think they use Intel boards with a locked FSB.

Plz. Nothing worth buying? Sounds like fanboy talk to me.

I used to think that as well, but the FSB is locked with a jumper from what I've heard, and it's easily unlocked.

I'm just trying to be impartial.

I have had excellent luck with Intel processors back to the P2/LX chipset days. I've owned a P-2 333, P-3 800 and P-4 2400 for my gaming machines. This is the first time I've ever bought an Athlon main system (my server is an Athlon XP, but it is so for price and little else).

If I was buying a new machine for my work, I would strongly consider a Pentium.

But, for games, I think the A-64 is the way to go.

I'm very happy to see that there are two companies duking it out for my money.

You should, no, need to wait for the 512mb radeon x850. Also, you may want the audigy 4.
