This is merely your take on the situation. Which is what I'm sure sly meant with the do you work for epic statement.

I hate to break it to you; but it is in fact a bug that occurs any time a view target change is called. Should you fly the deemer in alt fire mode, the ambientsounds will restart. Should you switch to beacon view with the translocator, the ambientsounds will restart. The console command "PauseSounds" is broken as a viewtarget change will restart them over again, requiring you to type the command over and over.

It was a bug that was introduced in UT2004 which was more or less confirmed when DrSin reported that it will addressed in a future patch. All we are doing is seeking a solution to a problem that prevents us from playing the game the way we want/used to play it (ut2003).

All you are doing is trying to prevent an active community from fully enjoying the game as we once did. You don't see us blaming the sinkhole bug on poor mapping do you? That bug ****** alot of ppl off, I'm glad they fixed it! It didn't effect our gametype the slightest bit; but the bug we speak of effects our gaming experience daily!!

We simply want a fix to a simple problem that effects your community a whole 0%. For example, I never have and never will play Deathball. Suppose one day a bug surfaces that prevents you and your friends from fully enjoying the gametype as you once did. Fixing this bug wouldn't make a lick of difference to the other communities yet everybody and their grandmother steps in and tries to cokeblock. hf gl

Good Lord! As if I have any influence that I can prevent things I disagree with from happening! You flatter me sir! For starters, if I had that kind of pull, the Red Sox would have won the '75 World Series.

At this point we're really derailing this thread. If you have an existing topic somewhere that Epic can see about this issue, that might be a better place for this. I'm growing more curious to hear their position now too. AFAIK, it was intentional that the redeemer is piloted in 1st person with the ability to see and hear all that the redeemer sees and hears. Ditto for the xloc camera. So when those actors spawn as pawns, it's only natural that the sounds be restarted for them as well. Their positions relative to ambient sound sources would be different from the controlling player's pawn.

Funny that you point out Deathball. (Shame you won't try it - hope it's not just because you feel we aren't getting along) Yes, it's my current vice, and as a mod, it's had to adapt to unreal engine changes several times. Like you, I'm a very passionate and outspoken supporter of the game's community and I've even begun to learn the ways of uscript to lend a hand to Team Vortex, the developer, wherever I can. I will agree that game bugs can be frustrating, but not impossible to overcome. Have you tabled a motion in your community to take matters into your own hands - writing a mod that extends your favored gametype to alter the properties of AmbientSound? If you want to make something happen bad enough, sometimes you just have to do it yourself. Sometimes Epic takes notice and good things happen too - look at BDB's mapvote and UnrealAdmin's UTAN to name a few.

Imaginos, the restarting ambient sounds didn't occur within UT2003, nor did it have the problem you spoke of.

Hsoolien, Stop using the RAA excuse. It has nothing to do with it. If people want to share/distribute music, there's pleanty of better ways to do it than to use Unreal Tournament. If what you say is true, why don't we see an explosion of porn distribution using UT?

Personally I'd like to see a way to package music in either UMX or OGG format so that it can be made optionally pushable. But I'd still like the ambient sound to be restored to the way it was in UT2003

I'm still wondering what gametype you're talking about. MEAAS-SomeMapName (Music Embedded As Ambient Sound)? :bulb:

Are they still busy with bugfixing and adding content to patch?

Oh yeah. I know.. we had a few mappers for Deathball as well as Deathmatch try the embedding. One of the maps that came about at that period was actually pretty decent, but noone could stand it. The music went on and in in UT2003, uninterrupted.

Gah! Let's bust this into a seperate thread if we want to carry this on in hopes Epic will join in.

                    :]

Right on, glad to finally see some constructive posting on this topic. I've tried and failed a few times to fix this problem with a mutator. I've hunted all through the source files; but I can't find anything that might be causing it. To me it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack.. hehe, burn down the hay stack right.

If anyone can think of a way to prevent ambient sounds from being destroyed via mutator, we can all go home happy. Yes, their were a few ppl who played on our servers regularly in UT2003 that didn't always appreciate the music. We informed these players to bind a key for "pausesounds" and there was much rejoicing. A simple key press before the start of the match took care of the whole problem.

I'll try posting on the mods mailing list, yet again. Perhaps a thread in the uscript forum. The problem is I have a hunch this will be the final patch for UT2004. I fear if this doesn't get fixed now it never will.

Not nescessarily, the more people give useful feedback on this patch, the better it might be.

The point of this post is what? The more people that have the patch then the more people that provide feedback and the better it will be.

And your logic there is what? This is simple logic. The more people that have the beta, then the more people that will provide feedback and the better it will be.

Kinda like the saying. Two heads are better than one. Guess that is to difficult for you all.

Growing a brain that works might be helpful if you can't undertstand simple logic. :weird:
