    You would actually have had a point if it WASN'T a reply to the question: "How do I catch FCs without trans?", because just going after them is not going to work if they're any good.
    Moving at the same speed is not the same as taking a faster route at the same speed.

    A car can be travelling 50mph in a straight line, another car can be moving 50mph but have a curve along their path to the same destination. Essentially, they're moving just as fast, except one is taking a quicker way to the destination.

      So what if the FC takes the fastest route and spam behind them? (not to mention in many maps the routes are planned out to make them take approximately the same to cross)

              Keee- rist are you guys still having this argument? Nobody cared what anyone here thought when the 2003 was being made and they decided to nerf the TL, and nobody cares now - do you think theyre going to change a game based off a fricking interweb poll? Do you think noobs are actually going stop trying to turn CTF into DM with flags just because you explain the benefits of TLs to them?

                Perhaps because what you're saying makes no sense at all? If the FC has even modest skill at dodging and moving and knows the map, a defender will NEVER be able to catch them when they spawn behind them back in their base without a translocator as everyone moves at the same speed. What about this simple fact do you not understand? As was already said, it seems you need a refresher in basic physics & math.

                Agreed 100%. I used to play only CTF back in UT and now I can only tolerate it in small doses in UT2k4 due to 2 things:

                1. Nerfed translocator. Unlimited is how the game is meant to be played, not this pathetic charges system. Such a joy to be wondering if I have enough charges left after using all of them just to get around in a cramped base arming up for a flag run / escort mission. The whiners who couldn't deal with a trans-ing opponent won this one it seems. Yay well done Epic... zzzzzzzzzz. Telefragging is also nearly impossible now compared to how easily I could do it in UT. I used to pull off telefrag multi-kills all the time, now I can't even get it to work once reliably. Just sad. And the stupid colored trail of the disc as it arcs thru the air? Pfft, don't get me started... another crutch for the unskilled.

                2. Adreneline, specifically the Speed combo. Quite possibly the stupidest idea I have ever seen in a gametype so focused on strategy and positioning as CTF. I was actually having fun playing some CTF the other night on a pub (Cain's Lair) for the first time in a long time.. then someone who knew how to move well grabbed the flag, hit Speed and was gone faster then I could trans after them - because I ran out of trans charges, of course. I just stared at the screen with that lame, no-skill cap on it for a few seconds, and then logged out without saying anything. What is there to say really when he capped without having to fight a single person as he flew by them all. That is not capture the flag as I will be playing it.

                CTF in UT was perfect, the highpoint of the gametype for many including myself. 2003 screwed up the gameplay majorly and I didn't even play it for more than a few weeks after I got suckered into spending money on it. ONS brought me back to try out 2004, but I see that 2004 CTF is still as screwed up and tilted to the less skilled as ever.

                Well done Epic. I'm sure you're pleased with how things have turned out. *sigh*

                  This "pathetic" charge system is something which I believe adds to the strategy and gameplay. Ive not played CTF 99 so I can't comment on it, but I do know that I would not like to participate in a match where everyone had an unlimited translocator. With limited charges, it means people have to use what they have got more wisely.

                  So if what your saying is limited charges on the translocator is only for people less skilled.............thats similar to saying having infinite ammo on any weapon takes more skill than having limited ammo

                    Lucky for you proper CTF games are played without adrenaline, for this exact reason.
                    Speed is essentially a wildcard delivering a 50% chance of capping without resistance. It's been made less idiotic in UT2k4 (adren counts down faster with the flag) but it's still silly.

                      Not even remotely similar.

                      The translocator is primarily a tool used for movement, not a weapon (although a skilled player used to be able to use it as one of course). By limiting the amount of consecutive throws you can make thru the charge system, Epic has greatly aided those less skilled players who were unable to kill a repeatedly trans-ing attacking opponent.

                      This was a skill you previously had to master in UT CTF if you wanted to be able to defend your flag or especially play the midfield or else attackers would be able to get past you with ease. Now, you know that they can only do this in the very limited fashion of a set amount of throws in a certain time period, rather than how quickly a skilled xloc user used to be able to do it, with translocator tactics such as multiple changes in direction, mid-air double translocations, etc. The xloc disc mid-air trail greatly aids this as well as now it is beyond simple to track where an opponent will likely appear where before you could confuse all but the best players with the above tactics.

                      Hence, the current translocator system, and specifically the limited charges aspect = crutch for unskilled. All clear now?
