REDMOND, Wash. -- Sept. 2, 2004 -- Microsoft Corp. today announced the final version of Windows Media® Player 10 will be available for download at 6 a.m. PDT on Sept. 2, 2004. The new player is designed to make it faster and easier for consumers to discover, download, play and transport their digital media, and includes the first built-in Digital Media Mall, which enables consumers to browse and acquire music and video from a broad number of online stores.

It says it was the 2nd but it didn't show up on WindowsUpdate till today.

I hate winamp on every system I install it on it refuses to play files or crashes repeatedly. I prefer media player classic.

Media Player Classic and Winamp 2.91 are the best. Everything else is bloated.

the gui seems the same (thats the reason i downloaded the beta, it had a kewl gui )

VLC is excellent for videos — it’ll play almost anything, and can stream to unicast and multicast with transcoding too.

But for audio it’s Winamp, baby. :up:
