{ot} Hardware question, which is better?

    3000+ AMD Athlon 64 Processor w/ 1024KB L2 cache
    and
128 MB Dedicated VRAM - Ati Mobility Radeon 9700 Pro (M11-P) Chipset
    and
    cheaper

    or

3.0 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 Processor (800 MHz Bus) - w/ HT (Prescott)
    and
256 MB Dedicted Video Ram - ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 Pro Turbo Video Chipset (M11)
    and
    12 cell battery(first one has 8 cell)

Both systems with have 1024Mb of RAM so I was thinking the 256MB wouldn't be needed on the card. On the other hand I won't be able to run Unreal in Linux anyway since it isn't a geforce card(unless ATI releases new/better drivers for the 2.5 kernel) so I don't know how much use I would get out of the 64bit processor in the first place.

    What do you all think?

YES, get the athlon 64. You'll like that much better because it'll last longer and the performance is ten times better.

While I still say to got w/ AMD, that processor only 512kb L2 cache (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-486&depa=1). The Opterons have 1024 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...103-402&depa=1).

64 bit processor will serve you well "in the future"

That OS needs to be released... but when it is, you'll be all smiles

Get the AMD 64, no question. And ATI has just recently released decent Linux drivers, though why you're still on kernel 2.5 is a mystery.
