why are there so few active assault clans?

    why are there so few active assault clans?

    Assault is a great gametype that needs skills aswell as tactics, and is great for clanmatches... but it seems that there are so few active clans in the assault ladders (see clanbase)

    only 17 active clans...
    come one clans forget onslaught,go play assault and join the ladder

    IMO Assault is not that interesting from a clan's perspective.

    I like it every now and then, but I prefer the versatility of Onslaught. Assault can be a lot of fun, I admint, but it also quickly gets repetitive, and some levels are just too straightforward and simple, deathmatch with objectives.

          but are there loads of good ones?

          IMO there aren't. A few kickass maps (like glacier), but some (i hate Junkyard and mothership :P) are not so good.

              I only play TDM competitively (and some 1-on-1), but if I had to choose between Assault and Onslaught I would choose Assault. It just seems more tactically challenging.

              But for some reason, its not popular.

                Plus not all the maps are suitable for competitive play, and some maps (ie mothership) turned people away from assault all together.

                  Assault is **** near perfect from a clan's perpective. Like with all gametypes if you don't play it enough you won't appreciate the depth of the maps and the gametype.

                  The first issue is time. It really adds to the intensity of the game. When you are holding the other team back you are gaining valuable extra time for your own Assault. When attacking there is added pressure since first team has set the bar. You blow it on defense and they complete an objective you just put a lot of pressue on your team. There are multiple routes to objectives and different ways to get around defenders.

                  Timing of respawn rewards you for taking out a defender giving you a little more time to complete objective. You need strats for best attack routes, best defensive positions and you need lots of communication to ensure enemies don't sneak by or some defenders don't get overrun.

                  Plus you got a mix of maps that change up the objectives. Turrets on Convoy for example might as well be an objective because if you don't take out the turrets on the 2nd side of the map against a good team you will get locked down. Players with very good movement can be very dangerous and know how to get around the choke points.

                  And the best part about it is that it encourages DM skills. More team driven than TDM without putting too much emphasis on vehicles.

                    there are loads of maps with "AS" tagged infront of the name. But trick jumps and space races are not Assault.

                    Best custom Assault map I have seen is AS-Holocorp. Just came out of alpha after lots of gameplay testing and work is being done on making it look nice right now. Its the kind of map that will play well competitively.

                    AS-Confexia is beautiful but its more ONS than AS.

                      Assault is boring, it was fun the first few weeks, then the 5 maps got old.

                      They took out launching your teammates with rocket launcher. YOU CAN'T EVEN HAMMER JUMP WTF. Those 2 things made assault in ut99 a whole lot fun and more competitive than running in a straight line getting spawmmed by hopping rocket spammers like in 2k4.

                      I am making a new AS map, but i am having problems, things that are working ofline refuse to work online when i test it on a server

                        nice to know people agree with me

                        you need people with a good aim as snipers for back-up aswell as people with good short distance fighting skills and movement skills to take out objectives, linking up at the right moments is important, it requires a lot of teamwork... so thats why I think its a excellent competive gamestyle.

                        and the lack of maps isn't a big problem just play them a lot and you find a lot of new ways to get to objectives and stuff.. so they keep being interresting..

                        and there should be a few good costum-assault maps coming up...... I hope

                        so get your team ready and enter the ladder :P

                            You mean the thing that made UT99 Assault lame because the maps were exploited and finished all too quickly?

                              Ask Willhaven why there are not as many assault clans compared to the ut99 assault. To put it simply, me and many other hardcore assaulters got raped by Epic, because "they thought the original assault was buggy and needed a fix".

                              I won't go into detail, if you're in the scene, you know what I mean.
