They said they won't release to retail (i.e. UT2004) unless its enough new content. UT2005 will be a bonus pack, although i'm not sure if they're also releasing a box-on-shelf retail version also.

Epic is one of the developers I respect a lot, in the same way as Raven Software, Blizzard and Volition.

I remember being very active in the Raven community at one stage. They are a company who release a lot of free bonus material once they're game is out. I believe Epic to be similar in this same way, they will be releasing 2k5 for free, which is **** fair towards the customer!

No further information is available on these titles, however its likely that UT2005 will be the first title to adopt Epic's original yearly update plan. This means that when UT2005 is released, it'll likely include UT2004 as well as any bonus packs released for that title. Also, with UT2004-UT2005 being a minor update, its likely that UT2004 owners will be able to upgrade to UT2005 for free.

As for Unreal Tournament 2007, its likely that it will be developed on Unreal Engine 3 and released sometime in 2006 or 2007, after Epic's 'Next Big Thing', as Mark Rein explains.

unfortunatly, i'm not wrong on the aspect about Unreal 3. Epic have stated that they have no current plans for Unreal 3, but they will probably make one eventually

    yeah...as great as 2k4 is, its still a lot like 2k3...so 2k4 is more like a ut2&1/3 or 1/2

But, man... You guys lost focus of what WAS Unreal Tournament.
Agreed, the 2kx series haven't come CLOSE to being a UT2 or 3

I think that they said somewhere that the next epic game would not be an unreal game, the next would come out in 2007 (?)

Well, personally, I'd like to see the "Unreal" put back into the Tournament. I mean, UT came out in '99, and everyone was blown away. But let's face it, a bunch of people running around killing each other for no really compelling reason just doesn't seem all that "unreal" anymore, now does it? I mean, yeah, the game is fun, but I'd like to see an infusion of fantastically imaginative elements, such as the "World Peace" gamtype, and the "Life Worth Living" single player experience. A good dose of love and understanding would elevate the UT series above its competitors, and make it more like a fictional universe, rather than a simulation of current political strategies.

I'm aware of this...but that suggests the needs of the company...to perhaps think about hiring people with the single purpose of doing the more complex maps...or ask the current employees to doo a lil more...

'course the notable problem is that it would either take to long to finish the game or it'd be another 2k3 with an amazing 30+ maps...

of course the problem with hiring new people is...well they dont usually work for free...
