    UT2004 Killed UT2003 maps

    Many custom maps were killed by ut2004 due to a bug with AmbientSounds (music) restarting after death.

    I've posted many times in threads concerning new patches only to be ignored.

        Music is good. UT2003 is dead, and of no importance whatsoever anymore.

          Then while ur at it abandon CBP1 if 2003 is as dead as you say.

          2k4 may reign supreme but 2003 maps still have replay value.

                1. Every time u respawn, the Ambient Sounds restart.
                2. pausesounds will only last until your next respawn.
                3. If in mid-translocation should u switch to beacon view the Ambient Sounds will restart.

                Map makers have used Ambient Sounds to import music into many of custom maps. Now each time you get fragged the music starts over. It's gets rather annoying and forces us to abandon the map. It's a simple bug, how it's been overlooked for so long kills me.

                  Or is the problem that the mappers haven't re-done thier maps for UT2K4? Seems like an easy thing for the mappers to fix.

                      Mappers should stick with normal convention and use .ogg files for their music so that they aren't forcing music upon those that prefer to play without it.

                      I can understand some circumstances where ambient sounds used for music would be appropriate from a radio or something but generally there is no reason to do it.

                      However I do agree that from the sounds of it, this is a bug that does need fixing.

                        This affects all ambient sounds, in 2004 and 2003 maps.

                        For normal weapon maps I might agree. But certian IG maps benefit from music to set the tone or act to create a theme. A decent solution to this problem is to add PauseSounds=True or False in the UT2004.ini

                        We always had PauseSounds bound to a key. If we didn't like the music it was an easy fix. We'd tell others to do the same. Yea mappers should use good judgment when forcing audio.

                        PauseSounds=True or False in the UT2004.ini would be the solution.

                          I've also noticed that the sounds restart when you use the redeemer alt-fire mode.

                          I agree with you whole-heartedly ZERO1, unfortunately most people that aren't a part of the LG/IG Arena community won't understand the situation, let alone be able to sympathize. Seems like the general response has always been "Suck it up and play"
