    UT Weapon Damage

Ok, since in every thread I have seen comments about the weapons then I thought I could try and clear it up.

Personally I think that the weapon damage was perfect in UT99, you could die very fast, so you need to be sharp and cunning. Every weapon had a use, so most people had unique favourate weapons. I played UT2003 a lot with normal weapons (taking ages to find a suitable server), and found that everyone runs around with a Rocket Launcher and only uses other weapons if they run out of ammo or decide on a change from the norm. In UT2003, at long range you didnt even have to bother keeping an eye on people because there are no really effective weapons, the Lightning Gun is too easy to escape from or even easier you can close the distance and gun the sniper down with ease before they get a second shot. Also, I dont like the camper give-away, what fun is having sniper weapons if you cant camp because of give-away smoke/lightning trails. Playing UT99 CTF-Face was great fun because of the people fighting on the ground while people hid on ledges of the tower and camped giving sniper support. It is great fun being stealthy and sniping/hiding etc, only a cunning enemy will be able to defeat you. I could go on for hours saying how UT99 weapons are better but I would run out of superlatives.

If you fancy a tweaked UT99 for example, vote UT99 and say what you would modify.

        I prefer UT2k4, really.
On average, each weapon on it's own is more powerful than it was in UT2k3, but without the weapon switching all the 0.5 second spawnkill deaths are gone.
UT2k3 was a bit too random with all the switching, UT1 was nice too, but had a BIG bias towards instant-hit weapons (mostly because it was designed with newbies and high-pinging narrowband users in mind)

ut2k3 for me...ive noticed the ut classic mutator has an option for classic weapons damage but none of that for ut2k3 style mutator...

One thing that is bugging me is the UT2003 minigun, it acts like the assault rifle but slightly stronger. It should be like the classic Gatling Gun style fire from UT99, bullet mayhem.

UT2004's weapons reign supreme over all online FPS arsenals as far as I'm concerned- they're balanced yet powerful and fun to use. Each weapon is specialised and you end up switching all the time, rather than just picking a couple of favourites as in UT.
However, there are four holes I'd love to see patched up.

Assault Rifle: The range is fine -it's a starting weapon and therefore made for keeping enemies off your back (rather than the shock rifle-like Enforcers which were better for mid-range sniping)- but the damage is pitiful. You need to give enemies a real reason to keep their distance from you when you spawn, therefore the damage needs severely beefing. The end result would be that a lone AR is as deadly as a minigun up close, and duals would complement the Flak and Shield nicely as part of the close-range arsenal.

Grenade Launcher: Seems fairly pointless to me. I usually just chuck it away as soon as I pick it up, waste of a weapon slot... it does have its uses, but it's so incredibly niche that it shouldn't be found in such abundance.

Lightning Gun: Now obsolete thanks to the Sniper Rifle. The LG needs something to distinguish it from its oldschool cousin, my suggestion being ~90 damage per shot, or better splash damage (perhaps splash damage along the beam, rather than just at the point of impact?). I grew really close to the sexy-*** LG in UT2003, it brings tears to my eyes to foresake it for the more useful SR in UT04.

AVRiL: Being an Aliens vs Predator 2 vet, I'm highly disapproving of anything that takes the aim out of a shot. Wheeled vehicles are highly vulnerable to regular rockets, Mantas to flak bombs and Raptors to every hitscan weapon, so the arsenal could cope with the loss of this one.
