    Why can't I dodge in Instant Action/Multiplayer?

I picked UT GOTY and 2003/2004 off of GOG the other night and I have this issue/question:

So most experienced players will know that in this game you can double tap your movement keys to perform brief bursts of movement in the desired direction. Combine these with a jump for extended mobility and parkour, hell you can even wall jump doing this.

I have it enabled in my settings.

So why is it that when I go into Instant Action or an Online Server that when I double tap nothing happens? Do they simply have it disabled?

Again, I have it enabled in my settings, I've restarted the game, etc yet to no avail. How would I go about enabling it in Instant action for me to practice movements in the first place?

It should work fine in instant action. Servers may or may not disable it (the vast majority don't).

It doesn't work in my Instant Action though. I've skimmed servers and joined them off a whim, 20 different servers yet still nothing.

There's a chance that you have Dodge double-click time too low, so the game treats the double press just as two different presses.

          I have it at it's default .25

What happens when you double-tap a movement key?
Does your character not move at all or does it perform tiny steps into the direction you double-tapped instead of a dodge?
If the latter one is the case, it seems that it gets registered and that you might be doing it too slow. I suggest to set the dodge-time to a higher value in that case.
If the first is the case, it could have to do with your keyboard or maybe something else is causing issues, e.g. the OS (sometimes, there are really weird issues with old games on Windows 7 for example). Compatibility mode might be a first try to fix the issue.

My character moves a bit to the sides when I double I tap it. It works just fine in singe player when I tap quickly enough, just not instant action or multiplayer.

Are you playing with any mutators or mods turned on in Instant Action?

Ya know... as soon as I remove the few I had in my Instant Action queue (Just Bonus Vehicles, Extra Gore, small things) I can dodge everywhere I go... The hell?

Some mutators replace the default pawn class, which may remove or inhibit the base abilities of the pawn (or modify many other things). The normal singleplayer game mode turns of all mutators etc.

The Extra Gore mututator might be the cause (I don't remember if it changes the pawn class or not). If you list the other ones we might be able to help.

Well, off the top of my head the mutators I'd had before I removed them (thus fixing my dodge) were...

                      MutBonusVehicles
                      SpeciesStatistics
                      VehiclePickups

I specifically remember having those two Vehicle Mutators in there.

SpeciesStatistics could be the cause. Depending on what character you play as I think.

                        Although... wasn't it actually broken?

I wouldn't know heheh. Never got into much coding or anything and I was pretty young when I played UT2004 with my Dad.

From the research I did on the mutator after I saw it in the game a few nights ago though, it wasn't the greatest mutator as it made some pointless alterations to one species or two that made me go "...Really?"

I doubt it was species statistics, stock mutators shouldn't disable dodging. Probably it was in one of the custom mutators, some of them make small alterations that are not changeable in mutator options and are just there because the author/s likes it that way.

I personally like species statistics, the small bonuses it adds to the species make the game a little more varied and although the bonuses are small, they can change gameplay. For example Juggernauts can't catch quicker species.

Well, I never play with SpeciesStatistics, but my thought was that the changes could have eventually disabled the dodging for the faction/race he was using.

What's weird though is that his issue was also happening in multiplayer.
Could be that (coincidentally) the servers he tried actually used the mutator that caused the no-dodge sideeffect for him.
