    10th Anniversary Map Pack

I posted this thread in Mod Requests / Idea Sharing and Beyond Unreal, doesn't surprise me the zero replies from BU but here clearly no one reads that subforum or really no one cares, for my sanity I'm going with the first . . .

C'mon people !, don't abandon the game !, I know I sound mad (and in fact, yes, I am) but I can't face the idea of this game been ignored to this point, I don't even have a reply saying that this is a bad idea or I suck ***** or whatever, THE IGNORE IS KILLING ME, is a clear sign that this game is dead and I hate that . . .

I'm not waiting for professional mappers starting to fall from the sky but at least we can discuss what we can do about that . . .

Not always a game celebrates 10 years with people still playing it on the servers, I'm not saying this is going to be the breath of fresh air that this game needs, I'm just saying we can't ignore the game where we spent 10 years playing, we must do something about . . .

Hi Party Boy. I like the idea, UT2k4 was fairly mod friendly and the "caliber" or art effort required for the game levels (HOLP style excluded) was almost an order of magnitude less than for UT3 and newer games (what with all them fancy normal maps, 2 UV maps for each mesh, super high-poly models.. what's a one-man show s'posed to do...)

I wish I could say that I could contribute, but most of my mapping efforts go towards my YARM mod (which requires a somewhat smaller map scale than the standard UT2k4 maps). I could probably contribute some static mesh assets though (I've got my Mirror's Edge themed static mesh pack etc. and some converted UT3 stuff compatible with UT2k4).

At the same time, the effort required to do UT2004 maps is an order of magnitude higher than it is for UT1 maps...

I really like the idea. However I think you should be organizing this much more actively, a few forum posts here and there won't be enough. You should reach out to as many mappers as possible, especially those who have contributed or have been active recently (nelson, berjj, greenloves, chookwoods, atomicdamage, pandemonium, krushak just to name a few on top of my head), email is your friend. I doubt that the one who organized ut99 10 year anniversary mappack just posted it on a forum.

Also you should probably think about a few more details like that it would be planned to release in april, that original content (static meshes/textures) is not a must but that it should at least look professional having bot support, sounds, proper blocking volumes and is gameplay tested so that people think that there is a high possibility of this actually happening.

As for initiative it doesn't help too much that you don't want to make a map yourself. Why should people sacrifice their time if you are not willing to do it too? So you should probably list all the things you can do like extensive online testing, organization and so on maybe you should also try to make a map.

So with all that criticism let me actually point out that I would be happy to contribute one CTF or 1on1 map if there are more people to be found. I probably won't be making many/any original static meshes/textures but could hopefully build a nice little map with content available.

Hopefully you will think about my advice so that we can get something together

It's OK, everything adds up, I can ask somebody if he can use those SMs (first I need to see if he can contribute) . . .

Yeah, but even so a UT2004 map is still manageable . . .

I'm going to spread the word in other forums too, I'm not in a hurry . . .

I'm not asking them one by one because I just want to see if there is some interest about, I need feedback on the idea, I don't want to sound like a fan boy knocking the door of each one of them without having a clear idea of what I want to happen, that doesn't going to help this becoming a fact . . .

I know, I want it to be at least at a UCMP level of quality, but I don't know the resources or the expertise level available, I don't know if I can demand so much, I don't even think about myself been the one in charge of coordination of all of this (a project leader ?) because I never did this, I don't know how to do it . . .

You misinterpreted me there, I never said I don't want to make a map, I said maybe my skill is not at par with what is saw in CBP or UCMP, I consider myself an expert in UnrealEd 3 (from the technical side only), but also I never managed to deliver an original good looking map like (for example) Hourences do, I do remakes mostly, you can see this map, is made from scratch, it has everything you can throw on an UT2004 map, SMs, shaders, advanced both pathing, cameras, projectors, xProcs, etc . . . also has a custom script I writed for the teleporter . . . but the map itself didn't come from my mind . . .

I think this pack deserves an original map, I can put my best efforts on it but you need to judge acordingly to the quality expected from this pack if my map deserves a spot in it or not and no hesitate if not, this must be a quality pack, is celebrating 10 years of UT2004 . . .

(If my expectations are unrealistic please point it out)

Glad to read that, like I said, I can contribute with a map, maybe two . . .

I know this reply is a little late, but I have a few good quality maps that I never released that I'd give you for it. I know a few people who might be interested too

I'm not seeing to much interest for this, unfortunately . . .

http://pwc-gaming.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=40 I created a tenth anniversary map pack that had a few of my old maps that were forgotten about. 53 maps isn't too bad. I didn't make them all but I had something to do with each of them on the list. Downside is it's only for Assault and a custom game mode I put together years ago called whipmatch.

I'm setting up an UT2004 server right now, so I'd like to see some more good maps. Unfortunately I never was much of a mapper, so I doubt I can help you there. The only thing I can do well is path maps for bots )

Link gives 403 for me. Also, could whipmatch maps be converted to DM/DOM or any symmetric-map game modes?

What does the 403 look like. Is it a cloud flare message or a simple white page with blue lettering?

                      Standard webserver error page:
                      Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /downloads.php on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The only way I was able to access the link was through Tor. I guess the site or your hoster has blocked access from some IP ranges.
