dunno what some guys are talking about but well what i have seen atm are that the TDM maps are pretty vvv good

        deck 17 - can't be better
curse 4 - is well done and alot better then curse 3 finally

phobes - ow well evrey1 knows this 1
morheus - omg wheeee it's back baby
        rankin -(demo map) goood!
Gestalt - Very old map before they knew that the name would be ut2003
Deserisle - first Outside map that looks fu*king amzing and what i have seen good TDM map to hold possistions
Grendelkeep - yap no need to say something about this 1
Asbestos - ut2003 only good map

10 great maps only for TDM guys and to not to forget maybe within 2a3 months a good bonus pack

The dm maps are pretty good imo.

Only gripe I have is that the Z axis fighting isnt as good as original ut, though i suspect most of this is due to scale of chars, not the maps themselves.

On a positive note, I absolutely love the new curse! It rules the nite. Deck 17 I could have done without, but I cant honestly say I really liked the first one all too much either. (lifts are a weee bit slow, and you cant pick up the pulse or back flak without jumping up on the box. grrrr)

Havent played them all, but it seems like there are lots of smaller, tighter, enclosed maps this time around....

Maps are like ART nobody can tell you what is Good/Bad. You either make an emotional connection to it or your don't (like/dislike/apathetic). You either enjoy playing in the games map enviorment or you don't.

Based on your criteria a good map is one that is all ramps and gray walls with well postioned jump spots - so it plays well on low end systems.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion.

You don't like any of the maps please feel free to use the tools that Epic has provided to create what you consider and ideal map for you, but please don't say someone is wrong for liking a map - it just shows a deep lack of tolerance and intelegence on your part.

Reminds me of that Nyleve's falls map for 2K3.

Hey...anyone have a link to that map?

                  imho CTF-Avaris sux tho.
The other maps are mostly pretty good. Some I like less but okay.
CTF-January managed to surprise me in a good way.

Avaris is a 2003 map and yes it's a nightmare. at least now when I get lost in it as i tend to do I can ask for tinkerbells assistance...

Isn't *January* just a slight make over of 2003's December

1v1-irondust - how you can screw a bsp tree with very well placed "seethrough" floors (but it's fun when you hear someone with 3200 proc and 9800XT complaining about fps )

                        General impression: GRAPHICS >> GAMEPLAY
I said "new" DM maps. Crash is from UT2K3. I like Mixer too, but that was also a UT2K3 map (bonus pack). As far as Irondust, I have a 2.4 cpu & Radion 9700 pro w/everything maxed at 1024x768 with 4x anti-aliasing and even with five bots on the map I get 70+ fps on top of the see through floors, so I have no clue what you're talking about. :bulb:

Irondust isnt the one that hits the frame rates imo.

                          1v1-Desolation is.
Frame rates drop too much in parts for that to be a playable 1v1 map.

When I look from RL to LG my fps drops from 70 to 30 on irondust.

Personally I'm not interested in the UT2003 maps so my comments don't apply to them.

I think so many of the new UT2004 maps are really incredible. Very nice fragging maps. I just feel so immersed in them. Most are not overly done as eye candy maps. I haven't played them in TDM yet but in regular DM they are extremely fun.

I agree. Compared to the UT2K3 DM maps (not counting some of the excellent bonus maps), the new ones shipped with 2K4 are near perfect. They remind me of some of the classic UT maps.

Speaking of which, I'm really enjoying Curse-lite and the Deck remake. And while I was never a huge fan of the UT Morpheus, I'm enjoying the new one. I like the way the jump pad at the bottom shoots you so high you can "steer" to any of the three goodies that are on the top of the towers. Being able to do that is balanced by the fact that you're a human skeet for the sharp shooters. It's a blast. The Hyperblast map is better than the original too, imho, and looks friggin' awesome. I just discovered I could jump onto the nearby fighter.
