"Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit" error message

I just bought and installed the retail version of the game. I double click no the desktop icon, the "play disk" is in the installation drive, but the game will not start. After several seconds delay a dialog window pops up with the message "Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit."

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

say ut2004 were a freeware game, that just happened to check its cd for the fun of it. Id use a no cd crack. thats on the freeware game of course...

can i talk about no cd cracks here? o_O

Im hoping for a crack to be made cause im borrowing my friends dvdrom (planning on buying a dvd burner soon) to install the game but he will take it back. I was unaware that you needed the disc to play.

Can you use the UT2004demo.exe?
