    Preparations for UT2004

OK guys, the game's out real soon now. I have a question, dunno if it's been asked before, so here goes.

What happens with all the custom stuff that I have for UT2003 currently?

I mean once I get UT2004, I will uninstall UT2003 and the demo and I will have some folders left in my UT2003 directory. These will contain a vast amount of custom maps, models, skins, textures, music and so forth.

So what do I need to do with these to get them to work in UT2004? Do I copy the remaining files into the appropriate UT2004 directories or do you have to install each file all over again?

How do I know which custom mutators will work in UT2004?

    Anyone got any idea?

    Cheers

You'll have to install the models again, there are references to them in system files of ut2k3, without those your models wont work.

I hope they'll work. EPIC says so...
I started a similar thread some minutes ago...

I always keep the DL-ed zip files, and use a map installer (UT2K3MI), so I'll get my custom maps for ut2k3 up again in notime. But F5 will work as well, I think. At least for the maps. I'm not sure about mods and mutators. But reinstall should work.

Maps from mappacks (like community mappack) will probably have to be recompiled in the UT2004 editor? Am I right?

I don't think so. At least I hope not...

Well i'm just wiping the lot and starting with a clean (5+gb ) slate. I have a few custom maps and the odd mut - but I will loose them all and start AFRESH. Won't even be keeping my own 2k3 maps for reference (not that I even play 2k3 anymore anyway) - the 2k3 stuff was made for a different game, UT2k4 should have as many fresh ideas put into as possible and I want to experience it in as NEW a way as possible, which will mean starting my mut/map collection again from scratch .

              Correct.

IIRC, UT2003 maps will work but at start they will recompile on the fly which means long loading times.

Apparently all you have to do is to open them in the UT2004 UnrealEd and then save them to fix this.

Though I assume this would cause conflicts with trying to play on line with re-saved versions V on the fly original versions???

In the case of the CBP I think they should probably convert them all officially and RE-Release it before 100 different versions pop up (seriously) - other custom maps.. whatever.

I'm sure the work that went into the CBP should not be brushed aside so I think it warrants a re-release in 2k4 format. And of course the 2k4 CBP (whenever that comes out) can stand proud alongside it.

Thanks for the info guys, I might just do as Sharpfish says and just lose all my stuff, maybe just keep a few of my absolutely favourite custom maps tho.
