OT: faster video card? Geforce 4 4600 or ATI 9600XT?

    Folks,

I need a video card to hold me over until the new cards from ATI and Nvidia come out. Which card is faster? The Geforce 4 4600 or the ATI 9600XT? I'm assuming the 9600XT is faster, but I can't find any bench marks comparing the two cards.

    yes
you should get either a gf4 ti 4200 for $80 or a 9600 pro for $120 if your going to upgrade soon that is
the new cards should be out in a few months,so id just go cheap for now
if you meen that your going to wait a year to upgrade, then yeah go for the 9600xt
Or just get the ati 9800 pro for $225 and be done

9600 XT gives you about 5 fps more than a 4600:

ok the radeon 9600 pro/xt has DX 9-so in the long run it will prepare you for DX 9 games.

the TI series is like 3 years old. the 9600 pro/xt is like 6 months old.

if i were you i would go with the pro, thats what i have, because

        1. they can be overclocked to XT speeds
        2. xt only has a 25 MHz core clock differece (i think)
        3. but, xt has overdrive.
        4. its DX 9 compatable

so go with 9600 pro its a good by!

          1. With severe cooling modifications.
          2. Wtf? It's a 100MHz core clock increase, and a new core (RV360). I thought everyone knew this :bulb:

As for which card to go with, if you're dead set on one or the other, go for the ASUS Radeon 9600XT, it's one of the best 9600XT's out there.

Get a 9800. Anything else isn't gonna hack it in the long run.

sorry i was wrong on the core clock but they can in some instances keep stock cooling and be overclocked to XT speeds.

              ASUS-pro/xt is the best.

I'd suggest the 9800 Pro, but if a budget is in mind you can always flash the bios of a np to a pro if you want.

                I HAVE to see this
Got any links? Because that's an AMAZING overclock. The reason the XT is 100MHz higher is because of the low-k process. Mmm, good stuff.

I can't wait until everything gets benched with ut2004 when the full game releases.

                            Here is a 9600XT bench against 4200 and 5600 Ultra...Should give a fairly good idea..but found nothing comparing 4600 and 9600 directly...

ive gotten mine well into the 500s/350s on stock cooling
its a made by ati with the good samsung ram
but im sure the xt will oc oven more than a pro as its allready got 100mhz core over it
But ocing silly to me,so I use default settings
even with that massive clock it only barely improved it,so why torture the card,i meen really avgd 4 more fps in 2k3,its not worth it
