        If you look in the diagram options of Unreal Tournament 2003, then the detail degree "high" will only encounter as top. The "Ultra High detail" mode, like it the developers ensure, would be on current cards a call for Choppy-orgies and are not implemented therefore in the game - not yet. According to Epic´s Mark Rein the mode will come with a patch delivered subsequently as soon as Nvidia's new NV30 appears."

        Mark Rein:

        "...If you set texture detail to ultra-high (something you can do in the INI but not in the game) then there are situations where you have as much as 180Mb of geometry and textures stored in the video card. Obviously today's video cards can't handle that but future cards that have 256Mb of RAM could. We originally had the setting available in the in-game settings menu but we took it out to prevent people from setting something that no current video card could handle."

        The above concerns UT2k3, so in other words you might need a 256mb vid card to use the Ultra high settings in Ut2k4. I think you might be able to use them anyway on a 128mb card using a high apperture size but I´m not sure.

          I know I'm a little late, but I too have a Radeon 9700Pro
          and am thinking about upgrading, but I want to see what
          the next line of cards has to offer. It's been said that ATI's
          R420 core could be clocked at 500Mhz. So as everybody
          else has said, I would wait.

            something i noticed in my UT2003.ini

            I never changed anything other than maxing out the details in-game and my ini already has textures set to ultra high:

            StartupFullscreen=True
            ScreenFlashes=True
            NoLighting=False
            MinDesiredFrameRate=100.000000
            Decals=True
            Coronas=True
            DecoLayers=True
            Projectors=True
            NoDynamicLights=False
            ReportDynamicUploads=False
            TextureDetailInterface=UltraHigh
            TextureDetailTerrain=UltraHigh
            TextureDetailWeaponSkin=UltraHigh
            TextureDetailPlayerSkin=UltraHigh
            TextureDetailWorld=UltraHigh
            TextureDetailRenderMap=UltraHigh
            TextureDetailLightmap=UltraHigh
            TextureMaxLOD=0
            TextureMinLOD=0
            NoFractalAnim=False

            strange? or normal?
