Now that's one strong argument there.

Both of you!
Emerald is right in the fact that pirates don't turn into customers if they can't pirate the game anymore. But I also see ArtofManta's point in that those who see the game and think to themselves: "I would like to own that!" Would sometimes find their way to own it without paying because they are too lazy for that. If there was no possibility to own it without paying, some of those would think about buying it, perhaps. So pirates would indirectly turn to customers.

Just found an awesome thread about DRM:

(You might have to click the link twice, it's something with the way that board is set up)

Think about it - when the game is so cheap and when with a demo key you can only access servers who also use a demo key, there is no reason for people not to switch to retail, unless they never intended to buy the game anyway. And like I've said, Epic doesn't care about UT2004 enough to do any major changes now.

And what would be their reason for going legit?
There's atleast one cracked server for every gametype (tons for popular gametypes). Populated by both pirates and legit users, most of those servers have players always in them.
This is harmful for those server admins who have legit servers, losing major traffic.
Most of the pirates don't even know there's more servers, because they can already play almost every gametype out there.
In my country, people barely ever buy any game, unless they need a legit key for multiplayer mode.

I have faith in Epic, even though this topic has been going on and on in here for years
