    9600 Xt Video Card

Can someone tell me if the ATI 9600XT would be a nice upgrade from a geforce 3 card......would it be worth the MONEY?

Also what Geforce card would be equal to the 9600XT

I would like to hear a few opinions on this card and the geforce that is equal to it. Which one is better?

Also does anybody know if there are any issues Running the 9600XT with the following software.....which is what i run most.

    1. Nascar Racing 2003 {my current card runs this great}
    2. Unreal Tournament 2003
    3...Battlefield 1942
4... Probly will also have to run Halo for my son....lol
    5...Links 2003

Also wondering if i could probly run Half-Life 2 with this system
    P4 1.6 Ghz
    768MB DDR SDRAM 2100
9600XT Video Card or Geforce card equal to this.

I know the 9600XT Video card will work with a 250 Watt Dell Power Supply....i would need the geforce card to also work on a 250 watt power supply.
    Thanks for your help guys

Yeah....you should be able to run HL2. Not too wonderfully (like...800x600 res at best).

          I had a GeForce 2... Awesome card.

I know I can run UT2003 a lot better than I used to. Improved performance in a bunch of other things too.

^ Yeah, what he said ^

Plus, the 9600XT doesn't work with VIA chipsets. I'm not sure why, and I don't think there's a fix for it. You didn't mention your motherboard, but yeah, the 9700 Pro is only a couple more bucks.

            So worth it.

[EDIT] btw, spent $219 for mine.

What he said whith "OVERDRIVE" it's automaticly over clocking mine to 550+ system clock! at 30* it runs halo, ut, max payne 2 etc. with every thing turned up crasy high and has anti aliasing and Anistropic filtering turned almost to max, and their not set to max because it cant handal it I just don't like every thing as smooth as it makes it.. Go for the 9600xt trust me you will be really satisfied!

                  I have a 9600 pro,I love it
What my gf fx5200 would only run at low to medium quality with no aa or af,my 9600 pro runs faster maxed quality ,6xaa 16xaf
I own a via chipset with no problems

this will be the 1st ATI card i have ever owned.

Is there a particular brand that i should look for......like sapphire...or anything like that.

Also what is a good set of drivers to put in this thing???

Really? How the heck am I running perfectly fine then? I know there's something between AMD, VIA, and Win2k, but thats fixable with a registry file change.

Thank you. I figured there had to be some kind of fix. I just had never heard of one, so I, for the time being, had simply assumed there wasn't one.

Upon looking again, I find that, while sometimes the card and chipset don't work together at all, there are ways of making it happen.

Either way, I still went with the 9700 Pro, so

The Inquirer (www.theinquirer.net) has a review of a Geforce FX 5900XT graphics card that is around the same price as a Radeon 9600XT. The Geforce seems to blow the Radeon out of the water in pretty much every thing (UT2003 included most importantly.). if you want to see the results go to

For the confused one its the 5900 VS the 9600. The 9600 is more like 5200, 5500. Its no wonder the 5900 wins in the benches. Also about the "blowing out of the water" compare the 5900 to a 9800 xt. The 5900 gets its *** handed by ati . Lastly Nvidias 4xaa is atis 2xaa and ati doesnt reduce quality to gain pefromance nor does it pay developers extra money like nvidia so the games run a playble rate :P

Allow me to quote the article

"This is a very interesting product since it will give you NV38, Geforce FX 5900XT for only 205 USD/Euros, while the FX 5700 Ultra costs only fistful of dollars less at 199 USD/Euros. This chip is actually a Geforce FX 5900 chip that works at 390 MHz just 10 MHz slower than the original FX 5900 chip. But the distinguishing factor of this card is its memory which ticks over at 700 MHz while FX 5900s have memory that works at 850 MHz.

This card is a prong in the attack on ATi's Radeon 9600XT with Half Life 2. Nvidia wants to take as much of sub 200 USD market as possible"

So it is a fair comparison as the FX 5900XT is in the same price range as the 9600XT. This is what i think you missed in the article.
