    Lightsource Shadows for UT2004!

I found this amazing modification for the Unreal Editor which allows you to replace regular lights with shadowlights. Incase some people might not of noticed, on UT2004 shadows from a player model are not being shaded from the lights around the level, there is an invisible ambient light above each player model at all times which cast one shadow directly below him/her. With lightsource based shadows the players shadow is actually effected by the light around him/her, making their shadow stretch or appear on even a wall. Here is a deminstration clip I made with a lightsource based light.

I'm sorry for the crumy link but its all I had atm. Once you click on the link it says you must wait 25 secs before downloading :\

Incase anyone is interested in creating maps with lightsource lights check out this link, you can find the download very close to the bottom of the page. Amazingly this modification is actually for UT2003, it seems as if the creator had just given up on doing a UT2004 version, the good news is this UT2003 map editor mod works for UT2004

As for badnews, the only thing I can say is it doesnt show the lightsourced shadows in demorecordings I really wanted to use it in some kind of a frag video. If your wondering how I recorded it on my clip its simply because I recorded "live" with "camera lock" down at the floor, this made it a little hard to move around so I avoided dodging and such to stay on the screen.

PS: The clip is actually set for widescreen resolution monitors, sorry if it looks funky on regular size monitors.

      Never heard of VLC?

      http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It plays 99% of every video format, and it doesn't mess up your system, it has it's own plug in folder for video files. SO no codecs in system folder and all that ****.

Actually I have. I've got it on my HD somewhere. Thanks for reminding me, I'll give that a try

Edit: That did the trick. Very cool effect. Do the shadows give much of a performance hit? It's not much of an issue for me, but it may be for others.

I'm not sure how much of a performance hit it may have in a multiplayer game with about 16 players. Unreal 2 uses it constantly so Unreal 2 XMP must also. My guess is it wouldnt disturb low end machines very much, and they can even turn their graphics down to blob shadows incase it did.
It would be really neat if this mod actually worked on demorecordings.

hmmm, so will it be playable in 2k4 without converting it?

Shouldn't be too hard to write a mut that would replace all lights with those shadowlights
Would just have to make sure they inherit the settings of the parent lights

I'd love to see this for 2k4. I remember trying it out for 2k3 and loving it, I completely forgot about this and the bloom mut until I saw the thread. If it's doable, please make it a mut for 2k4.

I took the liberty to upload your video onto youtube, primarily because I didn't have avi codec on my machine once it's uploaded i'll post the link here.
