    Sick Of Console Conversions

Lets be honest, Games these days are created with the same aspect in mind: Console first, PC later. I first cam to notice this with the Menu system on ut2k3, which was blatently designed for the console user in mind. Im getting mighty fed up of games that are obviously having to be tweaked and / or converted for use of the PC.
Prime Example? GTA3. The Playstation version was the dogs. It ran well, was enjoyable and PC gamers couldnt wait to get their mits on it. Then it arrived and even tho most high end machine was not running the game well. The code conversion was poor and the fun was lost outa the game.
The real reason i am writing this thread is Need For Speed: Underground. I have played NFS games for years and have always loved them. My favourite was the legendary NFS Porsche Challenge. On Monday i resisted the temptation to dive onto bit torrent to see if it was on there and went and bought it. BIG MISTAKE
I had some issues with the screen freezing from the moment it installed, and from a quick read of the ReadMe i found that "NFS Underground has some 'issues' with Catalyst Drivers 8.8 & 8.9. If you are experiencing problems then plz revert back to Catalyst Drivers 3.7" WTF? Oh, cus not many people will be using 8.7+ drivers! ffs. Next, the game will not update in order that you can play online. You click "online play" and it closes down, launched IE and downloads the patch until some little icon goes :up:Installed Successfully:up:... No it isnt

You fire up the game again and too my immense annoyment it says there is a patch that is required for online play. Grrrrrr

Once you get to play the game it isnt bad mind! Its not the best NFS game ever made but its kind of addictive. But mid race the screen will just freeze! The game does not crash, you can still hear the game running, but the screen is just frozen. I fail to see how developers, especially one such as EA which has a fairly hefty foothold in the market, and has been around a while, can afford to release such shoddy versions, and / or support and yet complain about people downloading games instead of buying them. £30 for a game that wont run on the latest drivers of one of the top 2 most popular GFX card manufacturers seems like sheer laziness to me in order that i can make the release date for the XBOX and PS2, which im sure are tweaked to perfection no doubt. Im sick of this ****, and the game is going back once iv cracked it

I haven't had a single crash with NFSU yet. Its actually one of the best games i have played for a very long time. If you like arcade racers without too much simulation **** then this game is well worth the money.

As long as the "console conversions" are of such a great quality as NFSU i dont mind them. Keep 'em coming

Console market is much bigger and has a much higher turnover. You can see it in the price of games, £40+ for a console game, £20-30 for PC. And since shooters and driving type games are pretty much aimed at console play, its only going to be hardcore strategy and RPG/quest games that will be developed with the PC primarily in mind.
Some would say if you cant beat them, join them and buy a console. Me? I cant stand the controllers, so I'll stick with my desktop and mouse/kboard

How is a console responsible for inapt programmers on a porting-team?

Yeah, the actual game itself is quite addictive, altho not the best NFS game they have made. But it has that many issues that it makes it more of a headache then anything else. Tis troo however regarding the Console market being more versatile, but FFS how long will it be b4 consoles are actually PC's anyway? Look at the XBOX, with a HDD etc etc. I refuse to buy a console, only to pay £10 - £15 MORE for a game, simply becus developers cannot be bothered to really polish any PC conversions.
Its a shame, but nothing is ever gonna change for a while im sure

I have been genuinly shocked by the number of people Ive come across running this game illegally, even the 1st poster admited they were going to crack it before taking it back (if you dont like that much why would you want to keep a cracked copy on your HD? Dur.)

I cant see anyone investing more time and effort into PC games when a large number of people dont even pay for it FFS. I can only see the PC game industry shrinking further and further with each new next gen console - and we'll all know why. It's probably too late as people like me, genuine supporters of the industry, are considering the console market because the conversions are so bad. PES3 for example -> shoddy.

I hope that games like UT2K3 will continue to be successful on the PC so that we can be saved from shelling out cash on a dedicated games machine.

Not that i dont like the game, it just needs to be tweaked to run properly! Besides, i am in hope that a patch / next driver update will help to solve the problem(s)

Well mesh, I think your on your own.

I personally havent had a single glitch eversince I installed NFSU. It always runs smooth.

Then again, I just "acquired" the game from the internet. I couldn't care less about playing it online tbh. I'll just finish the game and just add it to the pile.

Games that I take seriously and want to play online, I buy. SP games/games I just wanna play for mainly SP experience, I "acquire".

Sure "I am the scum that has driven the life out of the PC industry." Guess what, there are thousands more out there!!

Consoles arent safe! My friend has a DVD burner and merely rents games, then simply burns it to a DVD CD so that he can play em on his PS2.

At the end, consoles are winners since they run the games SMOOTHLY and the games have apparently better graphics.

You and I know that the PC 0wns the console anyday for graphics. But a lot of console gamers really havent seen the power of PC!
I think consoles shine pretty well in terms of polys. But when its down to texturing, they suck ***!!!
PC would blow any console away in terms of texturing. For poly count, PC is already ahead, just not as much as with the texturing.
So PCs just lack framerate and good games.

Another main issue is the fact that Console games = stable and any moron can play.
PC games = not so stable and not any moron can play!

Its down to simplicity people. Consoles keep it simple.
We PC users often strive for complexity and detail.

Most newbs go for simplicity (wow who didnt know that!) and 99% of console gamers are just plain ol' newbs looking for a good time!

Well, most of the map load issues is probably due to MTA than anything else.
Hell, MTA makes a multiplayer game out of one intended to be single player only

I guess you have the uk version of the game so visit this link for a working patch updater http://www.eagames.com/official/nfs/...d/en/patch.jsp

My game has never crashed even without the patch and I have had it running constantly at times using my radeon 9700 with the latest drivers highest detail settings and res at 1024 no probs at all.
