Although i see the 2k3vs2k4 argument, at the end of the day, it is the 4th (major) release of UT. If we are talking about not confusing people, the 3 would be surely a mistake. Anyone not clued up like we are would be thinking, hmm wasnt 2k4 the 3rd one therefore UT3 = 2K4. Or is that just too much common sense !
stick to the year naming convention imo. Reverting in the name of clarity now just seems... um... odd!
Besides, most "casual gamers" who don't know the series will say
"2007? it's one of those 'year games'... it must be ghey."
No offense, but that is what most people I know would say/have said.
(Yes, I actuall have had that response when I asked somebody about UT2k4.)
I don't really care what they call it. I just concerned if I'll be able to get a new computer before it comes out. My pc can't even play some parts of ut 2004. Well UT3 would be weird since its the 4th one.
Well, UT99 *was* goty or Game Of The Year, & I assume that somebody somewhere is going to slap a few awards on this one too. I suggest we keep it short go with;
UT - Game Industry Multi Player Association Seriously Suggested edition.
Technically speaking, Placebo is correct about this being the third UT (although there are enough differences between 2K3 and 2K4 to call then separate versions). But, look at the map file extensions for UT2003 and UT2004 maps. They all say .ut2. Therefore, you can't go with UT2, like some people have suggested. But, Epic is on the "200X" course with the naming convention, so 2007 sounds about right.
Well, first off, I count UT2k3 and UT2k4 as "Unreal Tournament 2", because they begin with "2" and essentially use the same theme and share identical maps between them.
Second, the year naming scheme is stupid because it's in our years, not the Tournament-era years...
but third, if the above was enacted, people would have a rather tough time remembering "UT 2347".
i couldnt care less how they gonna name it. it's not gonna make up for the game anyway. and as of late, i'm getting sick of all those ut2k7 threads here in the ut2k3/4 forum... :P
