Anyone up for a Mod-sampling club?

    Hello, fellow UT addicts.

There's been a few threads talking about the shrinking playerbase in our beloved game but not a lot of talk about what we can do about it. People are moving on to the next shiny thing. It happens all the time. However, even though UT2004's name suggests its shelf life might be expiring soon, many people haven't even begun to explore the wealth of mods out there. This is a real shame. There's plenty of good offerings out there that extend the game's playability and take the UT FPS into new and exciting territories. Many people just haven't bothered trying them because installs can be a pain. Others don't like to go somewhere new without a gang of familiar names/faces. Still more actually venture into a mod and get such a severe beatdown from the mod's veteran players they quickly give up and uninstall.

Which leads me to the point of this post. I'd like to table the idea of getting together a sort of "Mod of the (TBD)" club. The basic idea being to meet up nightly/daily/weekly (TBD) via IRC/Teamspeak/Ventrillo (TBD) and check out a mod as a group. Everyone would be a rookie when we storm an empty server. Those that aren't though, please jump into the coaching role and show us the ropes! The plan being that everyone can get a chance to enjoy the new experience and learn at the same time instead of the usual "trial by fire" that a brave soul would normally face.

We'd need admins to come forward to sponsor the mods for play consideration (provide a server to pile into, voice comm, etc). Then there's the voting to decide what we play and when.. And there you have the basic vision - it's only a rough plan and will need plenty of hands in on it.

Anyone interested in something like this?
