    Unreal... Feel the love...

I was playing Instagib CTF with low grav air control; we were 3-0 to the good. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a player double dodging high up on the walls with my flag. I lined up my shot and BOOM down the flag drifted towards the earth...

Anticipating the landing I prepared my translocator to return the flag, I waited to fire... when... all of a sudden the player I had just killed translocated, caught the flag in mid air and went on to score!

I watched with absolute amazement as he flew past fragging all the way!

At that exact moment I realised that I love this game. I love this game not just for the whole polished package, but for the little sparks of genius that only a number of players see at one time during a game...

    It's a beautiful thing!

I invite you all to share some of the greatest sights when playing the prodigy that is; Unreal Tournament 2004

Bridge of Fate. Two minutes left. Scores tied 2-2 out of 3. I'm on defense. Get shock comboed out of nowhere. Flag is taken...

I saw that the carrier was heading out the flak side. I tried to ambush him in the LG stairwell. Unfortunately, I end up eating 3 rockets. I desperately try to translocate my way back to confronting him. He makes it across the bridges and into his base. I shock prime one of his defenders right before he enters the building. On my way in, I grab the 100 shield and make my way to intercept in their flag room. I combo one defender along the way. I ended up losing track of the carrier. Finally, I saw him again... in the flag room... assisted by four defenders... about 5 yards away from scoring the winning capture. I launch a desperate translocator right at their flag. Success! I took their flag, literally BUMPING INTO the enemy carrier. I get hit by two flak blasts, running down all my shield. One of my team's attackers manages to kill the carrier as I make my way through the tight hallway into the rocket room, all through a fury of fire from the four defenders. I pull a shock combo on a retriever coming through the hallway. One down. Then, in the bottom left of my screen, the death messages report bad news. All the attackers that were assisting me just got owned. Oh boy. Three enemies on my tail, half health, and no support. They start trying to translocate in front of me in shock hallway, but I manage to escape into LG room and launch a tri rocket spiral into one of their heads. Two left. I get back outside to the bridge and am confronted by a defender that just translocated in front of me. After a quick tango, I end up snuffing him with a shock core. One left. I successfully make it across the bridge and into my base, wondering what happened to the 4th retriever. I'm still alone. I enter the flag room. As if it is deja vu all over again, I get deemered by the final retriever about 5 yards from scoring the winning capture. With all the luck in the world, though, he got caught in his own blast and didnt retrieve the flag. I respawn in the flak room, pick the enemy flag back up, and climb the stairs to a miraculous, stupidly close victory.

      Feel the love

AL777, Great experience, nothing quite like the feeling you get where everything falls into place! As I say, sometimes the little things make the game so much more. I remember the first time I played Doom, the sight of seeing a alien being squashed into gloop under a closing door still brings as much of a smile to my face as it did then!

Unreal however, packs all these little pieces of brilliance into one shining example of game design excellence...

Keith1717, the love is strong in that one...

            Great story farhenheit!

VCTF-Backbone, 8v8 we have the flag and we're heading across the middle, 4 of us. Their sniper starts picking us off.. 1-2-3-4 I was 1 and respawned and grabbed it, BOOM HEADSHOT.. The others started respawning as their team starts coming toward the middle. One of our guys got it first and started running, he nearly got to the hole that is over the flag.. Headshot, next guy, shock comboed and it sends him halfway across our base!

Finally someone grabs the flag (they were destroying us) and goes to shieldjump up to the flag. This guy drops down, Bocce, he grabs the flag, kills our carrier, returns the flag and goes on to cap.

If you're ever spectating a game at Fat Jimmy's, watch Bocce, the guy is freaking amazing. So much fun. I love this game!

Just had one with even more love...

On AS-Another_Race we were about 3 minutes from falling behind the first team's time, at which point we'd need to complete a virtually impossible objective to win. There were five fully-armed defenders, 40 mines, 40 grenades, and a ton of explosive barrels at the objective we had to reach. Toughie.

Before I leave base in my bender, I snag a deemer... never know when you might need it.

As I'm cruising along, almost completely without conflict, just as I get on the lift that would take me to the final stretch before the objective, the lift bugs the benders and launches two of our three benders right off the track into a deathdrop. One my way down, completely out of despiration, I fire my deemer unguided towards the objective (which is so far away I can't even see it). Then I die...

I respawn. A few seconds later, "ULTRA KILL!" Yep, my deemer, from hundreds of yards away, beyond the cull distance, ended up landing smack in the center of the objective area and blowing all of the defenses to hell. A few seconds later, the one bender of ours that didnt bug up on the lift reaches and accomplishes the objective due to the total lack of defense... victory.

God I love UT.

Oh another one of those greatest-moments-threads ..

Like seeing a scorpion barreling over a hill with the flag sticking out in VCTF then seeing a piloted deemer screaming after him. Moments like that.

Oh come on, don't be sad... , fact is, this is the exact reason why Unreal is a great game. It has so much diversity, every type of player can pick their fav type of game and learn new skills depending on the server specs.

I very much like the standard deathmatch as much as instagib CTF, however, my greatest experience to date happened in CTF.

Anyway, you must have an experience that brought a smile to your face...

Well, the best thing I've ever seen was CombatCarl battle off 4 rocket throwing attackers using only his shock primary... That's a feat... Sorry.. You can resume your CTF conversation :haha:

Also, I completely agree with you, it's moments like that that really make this game shine. When I first got in to UT2k4 I pretty much just pubbed ONS. And at one point I became a Raptor pubstar. I was in a duel with another Raptor on Torlan (of course it was Torlan) and we were goin at it for like half a minute or so. I landed a few plasma rounds on him and he charged me. Well, I started going for some elevation as we both fired off rockets at each other. I bailed from my Raptor and he bailed from his at the perfect time to put his raptor about 30 feet (yeah, I'm trying to think of what it would have been in RL) right underneath me as I was falling. And my rocket ended up going and hitting some Manta that was passing by. So, seeing the opportunity to be James Bond, I whipped out my shield gun and aimed for the top of the Raptor. I prayed I could live through it because HOL EEE SHEET would it be awesome. After about a 3 second freefall I land right on top of the Raptor and jam on my middle mouse button (that's my Enter/Exit/Activate button) and I'm in RIGHT before it hits the ground and crushes the guy who bailed from it... God that was so awesome looking back at it.
