    Unreal 3.0

To first start off I am a noob when it comes to game engines so please excuse my noobish questions. Okay lets start of this bad boy:

!st. What engine is Unreal 2004 using?

2nd. If Unreal 2004 is using the same engine that 2007 is using what exactly makes it look/perform better?

3rd. Is the gamer creators just adding features to the engine or using the same tech it currently has but at a high extent?

4th. I appologize for these noob questions :weird:

2007 will run on a complete new engine. By saying that it will run on a new engine this also answers the rest of your questions. There are no noob questions.

First off, the latest engine is called Unreal Engine 3. Now, to answer your questions.

1: UT2004 is using Unreal Engine 2. UE2 uses staticmeshes to detail the levels and has Karma physics and what not. Unreal Engine 1 had only BSP to construct the levels out of.

2: The engines are different and much of the engine has been rewritten for UE3. The editor will still be familiar, but a lot of stuff under the hood has been rewritten and a lot of things have been added.

3: Lots of new features, lots of new tools. Many older tools have been thrown away and have been rewritten (old matinee and scripting system for example). Lighting has been totally redone. We're using a new physics engine, etc.

Thanks for answering my questions because I thought this game was using the Unreal 3 engine. Thanks for clearing that up

Will, will the new editor be called Unreal Editor 4? I'm thinking of starting an editor site and I want to get a jump on the domain

Isn't it 2.5 though? iirc 2k3 was plain old 2.

I guess you could call it 2.5. I certianly don't.

I'm not sure what we're calling the editor exactly. I just call them all UnrealEd and assume I'm talking about the latest version.

If I ask or answer a question about older editors, that's when I clarify.

Ok, guess Ill hold off on getting the domain then. UED4.com is available, but my luck I'll get it and the name will be changed to "totally sweet and cool editor" or something. :noob: I don't want to add to my collection of obsolete UT domains.

Hmmm. I thought Unreal 2 and ut2003/2004 were using unreal engine 2.0 slightly modified by the physics engine of each game. Unreal championship 2 and pariah were supposedly using unreal engine 2.5?
