    UT and Skype

Anyone tried running a listen 1v1 server, and Skype chatting to your opponent..?

Was trying it with my Bro, and it worked fine, until his PC bluescreened... Only bluescreened when skype was running.

    Anyone else tried this?

Anyone WANT to try this...? Lewave a message and we'll sort it out.

Skype lags me horribly, and I really don't like the interface at all. Why not try Teamspeak or Ventrillo?

i absolutely LOVE skype, if i play pub im on it with friends that are still in holland quite often (as you couldve seen in another topic i just emigrated to sweden)

It doesnt lag me, and doesnt crash me in ut1 here.

When i used it at home on my pc, it didnt lag me and it didnt crash ut1 nor ut2k4.

the quality is SO much better than ts and ventrillo (when its a 1on1 conversations, for clantalks its not suited)

Yup been using Skype for a long time now, it rocks.

On topic: Doesn't seem to be related to Skype, unless it happens over and over again.

If you start a dedicated server then use VOIP it might work better for you. If your system can handle having both the server and the game running at the same time that is.

Googletalk sounds pretty good when it's just two people. Was testing it today.

Ah, so I'm not the first to try it! I think my brother must have a driver problem as the Skype + Game combination worked perfectly in Counterstrike Source.

Looking at a bandwidth monitor tells me that a Skype chat only takes 3-4k/s so I dont think it will cause much lag, especially as my upstream is 25 k/s

I think I'll make another thread to look for some 1 v 1 players.

                          I rather use Gizmo.
Skype allows you to conference call with only 5 people. Imagine you are the host you add 4 more people and someone disconnects accidentely. He needs to call u back and added to the conference call again. This sucks during a game.

Now Gizmo allows u to call a number wich start with 1-222-xxx-xxxx. Just let your teammates dial that number and they connect to a server hosted somewhere.
Gizmo also less lag and sound is a lot better than Skype. Some nice features like recording the calls, IM, maps to check out where your friends calling from and more.

I just set my Skype to auto-answer while playing. No-one else ever calls me anyway

Not that this helps, but I use it a lot with UT and I've never had a problem with it. Maybe hardware/software audio makes a difference?
