I think a Dell would be perfect for him. He doesn't know much about computers (like brand of cpu), and things will end up broken if he dicks with his system.
My previous computer was a Dell and it functioned flawlessly for over 2 years. I'm still using most of the components in my new system. I got a new mb, case, and psu so I could overclock. That's the only thing you don't get with a Dell, the ability to run it out of spec, which I think would be a good thing for the OP. Overclocking isn't hard, but if you blindly go changeing bios settings something could go very wrong.

There's nothing wrong with the parts Dell uses. I was exceeding the power rating of the psu by a good bit and it held up like a champ. The motherboards work fine, not a lot of bios options, but what do you expect for OEM? The memory functions without errors, and the harddrives are major brands. Everybody *****es about Dell because they can't overclock, or use them in a not as shipped condition. I guess you also complain when you buy a Dodge Neon and can't flip a couple of switches under the hood and turn it into a Viper

Neo Flame: For something like UT2004, your specs are ****. Particularly RAM and HD
Well check out my last computer specs if you think its ****:
              Intel Pentium 3 533mhz
              128mb of ram
5 gigs of hard drive space after I downloaded Utk4
              intergrated ati rage 8mb

AKA Dell Optiplex GX1 (year 2001)

My problem with them lxskllr is they DO use inferior parts. I have not seen ONE Dell system that couldn't have been built for hundreds less. He could go to his local computer store (not chain) and get the same thing made with the same parts for much less. Most of these places have a decent warranty system and won't charge you an arm and a leg if the warranty expires and he needs a repair.

For the amount of money people pay for Dells they could have 2 times the system if they would build it themselves or have a local computer guy do it.

                  only processor is good.
oh and keep the RAM for a other PC.
or maybe you can sell all those and get 5$ out of it.

                        you PC sucks

                        my specs before i start.

                        amd athlon xp 2800+ (2.2ghz) 333mhz fsb
                        1.25g ddrram @333mhz dual channel
                        pos 128mb ddr gf4

rest of the specs dont matter at all.

i was running 512mb ram and my load times for DM were 15 secs ons 15-20 ***. 15-30

i removed 1x256mb stick of ram and tossed in 2x512 and my load timeswere cut in half.

now mind you my computer is a pos IMO, my graphics card is the bottom of the line no name manufacturer GF4 ( i hate it, cant afford a better one, allthought i saw a sapphire ati 9800xt for $184us)

i would say upgrade you ram to at least 1g and you'll definately notice a decrease in load times, also get a bigger HD at least 80g minimum.

                              delete useless files / defrag
                              nuke graphics to hell

I have heard that if you ctrl+alt+del before playing and end explorer, then go file>new task and run ut2004, it runs a lot faster with explorer closed, and then when you are done you go to new task and start explorer again.
