Want to use the Quake 3 hitsound with UTComp? Here's how...

Out of boredom and curiosity I put together a little sound package to make using UTComp's hitsounds a little less annoying. This allows you to replace UTComp's default "ding" sound with the hitsound from Quake 3.

    The readme:
This sound package only contains the hitsound from Quake 3: Arena.

    Installation:

First, install the sound package to your UT2004/Sounds directory. To use the sound instead of the default UTComp "ding" sound, press F5 during the game to open the UTComp menu then click the Hitsounds tab.

In the box labeled "Enemy Sound", delete the current sound (it may take a few tries to do so) and fill the box with this text as follows:

    Quake3HitSound.NewHit

Recommended settings for the other options:

    Hitsound Volume - 2.00
    CPMA Pitch Modifier - 1.50

If you decide that you don't like the sound, you can always go back to the "Enemy Sound" box and select the default UTComp sound from the menu.

    Enjoy!

          Ugh.
Q3's hitsounds are the worst tbh.
Thanks for the instructions tho'... I'll be making my own hitsounds soon enough.

you should be using CPMA hitsounds in UTCOMP

(damage done is indicated by pitch - i.e. lightning gun produces three pitches - high pitch for 35 pt splash, medium for 70 point bodyshot, and low pitch for 140 point headshot)

pitch modified hitsounds allow you to learn damage amounts/proportions faster.

You can use CPMA hitsounds while using Q3a hitsounds. (or any custom hitsounds for that matter)
                          I don't see the problem?

Boksha always teaches me something. I haven't used UTcomp or played online in a couple of months, ever since I built my new rig. It's time to re-install UTcomp and get back to business.

whoa. so CPMA just modifies the pitch of whatever hitsounds you specify?

i didn't know that. cool, thanks!
