From Googling " error 0x80040708" I see it happens when installing all kinds of games and programs.

It seems the first thing to try is running the install program as an administrator.

still same. unreal anthology setup as prepaping the installshield wizard wiich will guide you trougth the rest of setup process. please wait... and load a while and error .. not responding and the error message .

Well one trick you can try if you happen to have UT2004 installed on one of your other computers, or if you can get it to install on another one, is to just copy everything over. Then edit the registry to add your CD Key.


In older versions of Windows the key goes in in:


HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004
Value name: CDKey
Value Data: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX (Make sure to use dashes and CAPS when entering your key)
Value name: Folder
Value Data: C:\Unreal\UT2004 (Whichever folder you put it in)

In newer versions (64 bit)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004
Value name: CDKey

on my my old pc i stared install unreal anthology with no proplem .but the fan is like a jet engine my ears :(( full install ,ureal. unreal tournament game of the year edition,unreal 2 and 2004. copy every thing to my laptop and a enrty to registry . i hope o not make mistake in registry. will i will try to copy reg. files i hope it work

it Works thanks . i have copy the reg files and it worked and multiplayer Works too in ut2004 . only unreal tournament and unreal gold dont work , stopped working error its not important. unreal 2 Works too . thanks again

Good, glad to see some progress. UT and Unreal 1 probably aren't working because you haven't installed the old versions of Direct X that came with them; but even if you did, the games look really dark in Windows 8 and they have performance problems since some of the rendering methods aren't fully supported anymore.

However, there are some alternate renderers that will fix those problems and work with more modern versions of Direct X. Try this one:

unreal 2 have some performance problems too time to time. have finished again , sad and short story . are there mods for unreal 2 or alternative ending ? anyway ut2004 is the best we talking about a 11 years old game and still online servers. people still love it .

I had Win8 for about an hour, put 7 back in. Anthology I have and I love the Music CD.

I use the DVD UT2004 now, I used Anthology for the older UT versions but it didn't ship with uPaint so I stuck to the DVD UT2004.

I have 2 UT2004 on C: I renamed one 2004 as I use it to see if I missed certain textures etc when I upload maps and that.
