Hi,
I think the auto-downloaded content (like maps, etc) that is sent to clients should be compressed - at maximum (or high) compression. I mean I went to a server which had "ONS-Aridoom" and a 21 Mb file started downloading... (but it is 5 Mb when zipped)
Maybe the server could look for non-standard maps like "ONS-Aridoom.ut2" and create a compressed version ("ONS-Aridoom.ut2.zip") if one doesn't already exist. Then the client could receive that zipped file and automatically unzip it. (Perhaps automatically deleting the zip file)
The benefits are - less annoyance for players, less bandwidth usage for servers (assuming that players normally use the autodownload feature)
