    Looking to buy Router

I currently use an older model D-Link router. It works fine no doubt, but doesnt have all the options I need to run the servers I want to run with ease.

I am looking for a relatively cheap router under $100. I only have 4 computers so no need for 7 or 8 ports.

What router is the best for hosting online games, which have the easiest interfaces to configure etc.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I am using the D-link di-604 and my demo server is running on it right now. It wasn't to hard to set up and I can tell you that it works for hosting a server on. I only paid like $40 bucks for it a compusa. I had the old di-704 and it got a power surge, so no more 704. the 604 is a lot better router anyway and I paid half as much for it as I did the 704. PM me if you get this router and i will walk you though the set up. In fact, it has remote admin feature that if you have me the info on LAN ip of the box the server will be running i can set it up for you. Has good firewall features as well. Pretty good router. BTW my IP for my server is 68.96.113.66 if you want to jam the demo a lil bit. I am downloading the free dedicated server right now and am going to start on it in a little bit.

Yeah, I have the 704 right now, Cept its like the very 1st one with the oldest firmware there is.

I have been looking in the direction of the 604 as of now since I saw it won some awards from cnet and pc mag.

Thanks for the input. Just curious of why my 704 was like $90 when I got it, but this one is only $40, and seeing on ebay for 25ish, lol.

Back when I got my router most people didn't know what broadband was, much less a router. They weren't selling a whole lot of them so they had to jack the price up to pay for devolpment and stuff I bet. I used to host a game now and then on my 704, but the 604 has better stability. It never crashes on me at all. I have left it on for 3-4 month never giving it a reboot.

I have been wanting a new router for sometime now, but what finally pushed me over the edge is the web admin thing.

I can host a server fine, my friends can connect to it fine, I can log into the web admin fine, But I would like them to be able to as well. I have enabled all the ports I can think of, default being 80. And no go. I have even set up the server as the dmz to allow everything in, but still no go. I figure its just because the router is outdated or something.

          Time for a change

I bet I can help you there. You ISP blocks port 80 on your connection unless you buy a busness line. They do this so people can't run webservers out of there home. You can reach it because it is on the LAN w/you which is on another subnet and a separate network from the internet. Get into the ini files and find the web admin port number and change it to another port number. I am using 8888. so from outside you would type in the browser http://X.X.X.X:8888 . that should get you going on the web admin thing. If not try different ports till you find on that works, one is bound to.

Ok, Been playing around a bit and if its not 80, then even I cant get into it. http://localhost/serveradmin wont even let me in on the same machine.

i figured it out man. I tried it on my LAN here and you have to put the port number :8888 or whatever you are using to access the webpage. It let you do it before w/80 because webbrowser default to port 80. So on the LAN where it wasn't blocked you could get in. Now tha you have changed it to the new port number you will have to add it at the end. You signed in on MSN because i haven't seen you on yet. I will PM you w/my msn as well then.

Ihave no problem with my D-linf 614+ wireless. As long as you forward all the ports and make sure DMZ is off.
