    redirect axx ?

I would like to set up a redirection that works like this if it can be done

I want to know if i create a redirect and with multiple ut servers that share the redirect. to avoid piggy backing is there a way to create possibly an htaccess so that when a group of ips are sending a player to the redirect server it checks to see who it was redirected from and if that is not in the pool of ips then it will not send the client any redirected files?

Is this possible and if so what steps should i be taking to create this level of access to a redirect server?

That seems almost impossible really in my opinion. I know Cpanel will allow certain ip's to use a direct link but redirect uses the individuals ip asking for the file.
You can try setting up a directory and hide the files from view using the following file. Just unzip and drop in the directory it will block the redirect from being viewed.

I doubt this is possible. Maybe UT2k4 uses a Referer-header that could be validated by the server but I've never checked (and it is easily spoofed).

To stop anyone from listing the redirect content you don't need to drop any files in, just turn off the Index option for that directory/location.

Are you hosting files that are not found on the public redirects or are you changing versions so often that you want direct control?

For the most part, clients that connect to your servers probably won't take the time to go into thier logs, look at the host that they were redirected to and start spreading it as a redirect.. or sillier still, use it on thier own server - especially when they have no way to add files to it.

For a while, the gameservers.net ones were getting abused by people upping whatever they wanted there.. for example, dm-pornmovie.avi.uz2 or flavorofthedayband_song2.mp3.uz2

They were hosting TONS of files that had no reason to be on that redirect -- especially OGG files. I chatted them up about the wasted space and possible liability for distributing music and also pointed out a short list of extensions that are actually downloadable to clients. My hat is off to them in that they took the info and scripted the ftp incoming server to reject junk files.

I guess the point is to save yourself the aggrivation and the paranoia of monitoring traffic to avoid overusing your bandwidth, just use the Gameservers.net redirect.
