Speed Boost

Newbie question here:

I often see people suddenly have bursts of speed and I want to know how they do this.

Its not your average double-tap direction button the players disappear in twinkly lights and then appear further down as if they materialised out of nowhere!

How do you do this?

That is called the translocator. It is a weapon/tool used mainly in CTF and it sends out a (usually) harmless projectile and you can be transported to its position.

you forgot to tell :
- the default button is Q to use the weapon (as 5 is for the link gun)
- press primary fire to launch the module
- secondary fire translocates you at the module's place
- pressing Q when you have the translocator and a module launched makes you look through a camera in the module.
- the module can be damaged, making the translocated die during the process of translocation
- translocating under someone makes that person implode, aka telefragged
