Today I was playing onslaught, ONS-Crossfire to be exact, and was walking to the middle node while I saw a team member fighting two enemy team members on foot.. and the thing is, there were 2 empty mantas AND an empty enemy hellbender RIGHT beside them fighting... so I immediatly jumped in a manta and ran over them both in a second... Use this to your advantage people, I've seen people fly down to nodes in a raptor and get out to minigun me while I hop in their raptor and either run over them in a split second or melt their *** with plasma. Same happens in crossfire a lot with the corner nodes, there will be 3 enemys attacking the node on foot, someone will be able to spawn in between them attacking it and proceed on food instead of hoping in the tank and killing them all in one hit... If there is a vehicle around... GET IN IT INSTEAD OF FIGHTING THE PERSON ON FOOT!

k...honestly though a decent player wouldn't get owned by a manta, and infanstry verses manta is actually pretty good, if you have shock, mini, flack, or avril, the manta shouldn't stand a chance, if you have rocket scorpion and bender dont stant a chance, also, shock combos work better for killing nodes then manta, so its usually smart to get out, vehicles aren't really an advantage against good players, its just a good way to kill noobs -

if you have shock or flak then it can go either way, but with an avril the manta doesn't have a chance, manta's will almost always win if you dont see it coming, or if you dont have anygood weapons
alot of the people in ons are noobish(its true) play vCTf, the people in their are usually alot better at vehicles, and at fighting vehciles

if you don't have any weapons use your shield gun on the manta....your best chance to survive and take it out if it is low on health....and you can't dodgeComment

Naw, it's easy to break the lock from the avril if you're close enough to circle yet far enough to avoid the flak and shock, plus firing plasma at the same time usually causes the avril to explode and kill the person firing it more often than not.

the easiest way to defend against a vehicle is the rocket launcher. if u see a vehicle comming ur way just back peddle and charge ur rocket launcher til u have 3 rockets in the barrel and right befor the vehicle is about to hit u release them and its basicly an instant kill on any manta or scorpion. and will stop a hell bend right in its tracks givieng u ample time to move out of the way and kill it from the side. ive used this tec. since basicly the start of UT04 and it works great. it does take some time to get the timeing right but once u have it down its like the best defence u can have.Comment

it depends on the situation. some times to get the uperhand i like to use a vehicle. sometimes on foot is best.
personally because of my shaky aim, i prefer being attacked my vehicals. my easiest kills are people charging me with mantas. one shot......boom. I can usually get them first.......usually.

I dont know about you guys but seriously vehicles dont do any good. I see a manta comming towards me while I'm on a grounded fight with two people and I'm still able to take out the manta and both of them if lucky (or if their not very skilled but the manta for sure.) You think vehicles are good? well your wrong, they are sloppy, provide less control, and have terrible aim.
How do you dodge a manta? Easy if the players a newbi he wont know how to use his alt fire to smash you so you just have to duck, if he is you can just double jump over him provided you do it not too late and if you do it before you might be able to jump onto his wing which is virtually his end. Morever then not I just pull out my trusty shock rifle and make the mantas, scorpians, and raptors look like fools tossing them allover the place. All it takes is 3 well placed shots but after 1 they will be thrown back far enough and their rate of accelleration will begin at 0 again.
You think your safe just because your in a goliath or a leviathan? Well there is a bug to the goliath if the person stands right on top of the minigun turret the minigun just fires through him, and the main turret cant hit him unless killing himself in the proccess. The leviathan cant angle its missle launcher to the point where it can hit people that are crouched on top of its nuclear gun. So link or flak away and boom they go.
Truth is vehicles arent for the experienced, and for the pro's they will hardly ever get killed by them with the exception of luck. The only time a person with using a vehicle is actually using skill is when he's facing other newbis. Well seasoned players know every weakness to the vehicles and can make you look exactly that, "stupid."Comment

I don't know your definition of "pro," but I kill and am killed by (what I would consider ) good players all the time both in ladder matches and pubs.
Like the original poster said, it's also pretty easy to take someone out who's busy sparring with someone else on the ground because they aren't paying much attention to what else is going on...not as much attention as they would if they were looking for vehicles to kill, anyway.
Avril locks only go so far, and even the best players will miss with the shock rifle every now and then, especially if it's an eratcally driven manta.
Now, I agree that every vehicle has it's weaknesses, and any vehicle can be taken down by one guy on foot, but to say a vehicle "does no good" is crazy.Comment

It is true no matter how much you deny it. By pro I talk about being in the clan level competition and higher. Dont take me wrong but when they go on pubs they have no need for vehicles. I once saw both clans ]TNT[ and [Dauf] on a server once and they just so happened to have their two clans populate the server. To most of us even me, I was quickly overwhelmed. People like you who believe vehicles do any good we quicky put to death, they totally ripped apart eachothers goliath tanks in a matter of seconds whenever they were spotted. Raptors were being shot out of the air by the shock rifles, sniper rifles, avirals. Mantas were being tossed around like play things. The scorpian was made looking stupid when they jumped over the blades and took out the drivers head in the progress.Originally posted by Machine6

Next thing the map switches to severance and then a guy named Killerboi10 gets the leviathan the next thing I see is this guy from ]TNT[ jump on top of the leviathan crouch and link gun, flak cannon, shock rifle, assault rifle, sniper rifle it to death. Then when the game goes into round two, I get the leviathan and this guy from [Dauf] does exactly the same thing, so I launch my secondary fire in the hopes of being able to use the area damage to kill him, next thing I know I'm forced to leave the thing because about 6 others from that clan start flooding me with fire.
Dont get me wrong vehicles are good if your facing those who dont know how to beat them. But when your facing those people at highest levels (clanmatches, World Cup Tournaments) your basically facing people who are aware of everything around them. It doesn't matter whether or not their busy fragging multiple opponites they can still seem to dodge you. Although it may seem impossible for you its obviously not for the higher end of the skillset ladder. I also think its highly impossible that they were using aimbots because that would have been 14 aimbots if so, and plus the server admin was on in spectator mode, so obviously if they werent kicked or banned they were authentic. It just goes to show how far above us they are.
And keep in mind those with Dolby Digital Surround Sound will always have the advantage because they can simply hear the whine of the manta, or the engine of a scorpian, hellbinder, raptor, leviathan, and goliath.
When you see people like these in action you'll understand how ultimately low on the skill learning curve we are.Comment

for me vehicles have mostly become a way to get from place to place, manta & rider is the best way to win vCTF, i have much more fun fighting vehicles because they're so much easier to kill. i fought off 4 vehicles for about half the map before they finally killed me. Also the Hellbender's sniper is pretty useful, and their skymines are probably the only vehicle weapon thats not easy to get around. O and anyone stupid enough to get in a levi by themselves w/o support deservers to die, and you said you left it?? you never leave it, ever.Comment
