At the end of the game aren't you supposed to unlock Xan or something cos i've finished the game but i haven't unlocked anything. Can anyone tell me whats gone wrong.

Have you installed the latest patch? There was a bug in former versions of UT2k4 which made unlocking new characters impossible. -

See here under 'Patches'. Installing the patch will fix the problem with the character unlocks.
Note, that a new patch is being rumored about. I don´t know when it´ll be released or if it´s already released, so keep your eyes open.
