    Minigun fire

I've been playing Unreal since GOTY, but haven't figured out the practical difference between the fire (cased rounds) and alt fire (caseless rounds) for the minigun. Is one better against armor, or something?

It pretty much boils down to rate of fire and accuracy. Primary fire has a higer rate of fire, and is less accurate, while secondary fire has a slower rate of fire, but is more accurate. I don't think that the damage is any different, but I haven't ever tested it.

thats right, but the secondary does do a little more damage. the bullets also move slower, so you gotta lead at range.

Actually, I am pretty postive the Minigun is hitscan, you don't have to lead them.

Here's the deal, if you are using custom cross-hairs, when you get the minigun out, the crosshair looks like a dot with a larger circle around it. If you use the primary fire, it will go really fast, and all the bullets will hit somewhere inside the outer circle. If you use the alt fire, the bullets fire at a slower rate, but every single bullet hits exactly in the dot. So if you use the minigun alt fire its kind of like using the Lightning Gun without Zooming in (You hit exactly on the little dot) only with more bullets that do less damage.

But, I am pretty positive that the minigun (both firing modes) are hitscan, meaning you don't have to lead. If you put the dot on someone really far away and press alt fire, you should hurt them.

are you sure the minigun alt fire is totally accurate?

One time, I could have sworn, I killed a newly spawned bot with 12 bullets to the head from the minigun secondary. From my perspective, the secondary causes more damage, or doles the damage out faster. I'm not saying that's a fact, just the way it appears to me when I use the minigun.

Primary = close range. Secondary = long range (more accurate). Both are hitscan. Primary doles out more damage per second.

I tested it in 2k3, IIRC primary did 8 damage whereas secondary did 16 damage.

Not sure in 2k4 though. I believe the primary damage takes 9 health off now.

I tested last night; In 2k4 primary takes 7 health and secondary takes 14.

primary fire = faster rounds and better for close range
alt fire = slower rounds but more accurate for long range
