I've been playing Unreal since GOTY, but haven't figured out the practical difference between the fire (cased rounds) and alt fire (caseless rounds) for the minigun. Is one better against armor, or something?

Actually, I am pretty postive the Minigun is hitscan, you don't have to lead them.
Here's the deal, if you are using custom cross-hairs, when you get the minigun out, the crosshair looks like a dot with a larger circle around it. If you use the primary fire, it will go really fast, and all the bullets will hit somewhere inside the outer circle. If you use the alt fire, the bullets fire at a slower rate, but every single bullet hits exactly in the dot. So if you use the minigun alt fire its kind of like using the Lightning Gun without Zooming in (You hit exactly on the little dot) only with more bullets that do less damage.
But, I am pretty positive that the minigun (both firing modes) are hitscan, meaning you don't have to lead. If you put the dot on someone really far away and press alt fire, you should hurt them.
