Is it me or is Malcolm far too good

I started the single player part on novice, and I made it to the last hyperblast map, that was the easy part.

I'm an ut veteran, having played ut99, 2003 and now 2004. So i can frag away .
First time I played Hyperblast, after being killed 4 times in a very short time by malcolm, I decided I needed a break.

It seemed his shots did far more damage than mine and that he has more health or something.

Second time I played, I killed him 4 times, and after that camped outside, cauz he comes once every 2 minutes or something.
So I wont 4-2, hehe, pretty crappy, but that guy is REALLY annoying. When in the ship, I can hardly find him, even if I walk all over Xan's ship. I faced malcolm on the roof and blasted him away with the shock rifle,

but in my humble opinion, he is too good if you compare him to the overall level of novice bots. Not even Xan himself is that good.
I'm afraid of what he is like on average or experienced mode.

I know what you mean....but the reason is this if i remember correctly:
He is set to autoadjust skill, so the more you kill him the better he gets....so very quickly he can be right up there kicking your butt...

Yep, Malcolm and any other final enemy are quite hard to beat in HyperBlast. That´s not only because they have a good aiming and dodging, they also know exactly where and when a powerup spawns. So, whenever you´re facing him, consider that he´s loaded up on shield and health (unless you are certain you got all the shields and most health).
Some general tips how to beat him:
      • avoid open fights with him when he´s using the Minigun, his aiming is good enough to take you down very fast even with full health and shield
      • unless you´re a god with the Flak Cannon, don´t get close to him - if you do, he´ll get behind you and perforate you before you can turn your head
      • it is often easier to fight against him outside the ship, the low gravity slows him down and you have the chance to bounce him off the map - just take care he doesn´t do that with you!
      • instead of camping on top of the ship, you can also hide at the wings at the back of the ship (where the Bio Rifle and Flak are, there are two small platforms with Health Vials, jump down from them and you´ll be there) when your score is higher than Malcolm´s.

Btw, I didn´t notice much of a difference between the final battle on different difficulties - it´s equally hard in each stage.

Yes, the bots are extremely difficult in this game. Yes, the last boss on the last level (Hyperblast) is on auto-adjust skill, so the difficulty increases every few frags you get. Trust me, getting stuck there because some bot has Aimbotted me with the link gun alt fire right after I used Health Adrenaline is VERY annoying and frustrating...

        My strategy for beating Hyperblast:

Like most DM players will tell you, the trick to winning DM is to come up with a Route. In UT, you will die if you ever stop moving, so you always need to be on the move, but in a big map with lots of stuff, where do you start? If you start picking up items, you can begin to figure out good routes by which to time the spawn of weapon ammo and health so as to 'not' allow Xan/Malcolm/clanlord to get it. If you deprive the final boss of a shield, they will be VERY easy to kill. So, when I start on this level, I do the following:
Try as quick as I can to get the weapons that I am used to and the weapons that I am most efficient with. Then, I start the route...The route in Hyperblast is only upstairs and is pretty much a circle going from the supershield to the 50 shield, and back to the super shield, and back to the 50 shield. If you are only moving in one direction, this route should end up as a large circle, running through one corridor past the link gun and left turn at the grenade launcher, just to left turn at the mini gun and follow teh corridor around past the super shield and ending up back at the grenade launcher. Rinse and Repeat. The 50 shield should respawn every "other" time you run past it. This way, you get 100 shield in the corridor, 50 shield on the other side, the adrenaline that accompanies the 50 shield and the health vials that accompany the 100 shield. If you keep this route up, (ONLY fighting the main boss if you have enough health/armor and when he approaches "you") then you will effectively deprive the end boss of both shields, a hefty portion of adrenaline, and health bonuses. If you maintain yourself at 199 health and 150 shield, (which shouldn't be hard using this tactic), if you have relatively good aim you should be able to take out the boss in a firefight every time.

Worked like a Charm in UT99 too

Run if he has Flak or Minigun. He cut me in half with the Minigun in like 5 seconds or so when I was at 199/150.

You've probably unlocked the hidden characters before reaching the end. Same happened with me i actually had Malcolm as a team member of mine in the last couple of matches. (Yes, Malcolm was my ****** :haha:  )

My lame strategy for defeating him was on the first four kills I would kill him by just running straight at him, not using and dodging or anything. Doing this made it seem as if he autoadjusted slower for some reason. By the fourth kill I had to give it my all to kill him and by the sixth I couldn't touch him. So once I got there and ran away and hid for the last ten minutes and it worked!

By the way, does anyone know what the announcer says at the end because I couldn't understand the guy because the music was too loud.

Tell you what...when I bought this game I played through the single player on Adept. When I finished that, I started playing it on Masterful. It was pretty hard at first, but once I got used to it, it was ok. I have moved through all the ladders on Masterful and Now I am at the 2nd to last level, Deck-17... It is unbelievably hard. I have played this level about 4 times now and each time the game has not lasted more than 5 minutes. I spawn, I get sniped, I spawn, I get sniped, I spawn, I get sniped...And then its over with me wondering what exactly just happened

The bot difficulty and AI on this game is A LOT harder than UT99. Don't get me wrong, I like it. I FINALLY enjoy a good challenge (I'm not too fond of console games right now because they are too simple and short), it's just unbelievably hard, So I guess what I am saying is that I feel your pain.

Any other hints for Malcolm? The tactic of playing lame for the first few kills doesn't work for me... he just says "You suck" and jumps to God mode regardless of what I do. I get one kill before he starts wiping the floor with me. And setting up a route on top of the ship works until he comes out there. He goes invisible immediately (does he ever run out of adrenalin? Don't think so) and finds me, even if I flee.

And I laughed out loud during the last game: He killed me up on top of the ship, then I spawned... up top, right in front of him. Very good AI this time...

Is there a way to make him non auto-adjust... which I don't believe is happening anyway. It's more like auto-adjust and then add four difficulty levels. Malcolm plus that STUPID assault ladder makes single player suck in 2004.

I agree with all of you who say that Malcom is way too hard. I got like five kills on him in the first three minutes and then just couldnt get another kill, no matter what I tried. I really dont like the idea of getting some kills and then hiding for the rest of the match, but if it works.....

And yes, I hate the assault ladder as well. It's ok for the most part, except that they end it with (insert string of expletives here)ing Mothership! And because its the last one you usually have to fight the toughest teams!

                        *sigh*

Hehehe... I have faced Malcolm in UT2003 on DM-serpentine, experienced difficulty, and facing him in the open or - worse - in the serpentine ended in "Give us another bodybag over here" I won by camping on the upper level, when he attempted to go up by lifts I dispatched him by a few flak shells that bounced off the wall and fell on his head

In 2004, I made my way through the skilled difficulty, and when I faced Malcolm in the finals fighting him in the ship ended in like
                          Malcolm 8 - 2 Owoc
So I camped near the shock rifle and relied mostly on his AI flaws, he fell off to space serveral times, I won
                          Malcolm -4 - 1 Owoc

I once beat him without ever meeting him. Just hide. He sometimes jumps into hyperspace entirely unassisted.

I also hated the match on DM-Aswan, I played with the cybernetic lifeforms (one of the toughest teams), and, what's worse, THE MAPPER FROM EPIC PLACED LING GUNS NEAR RESPAWNS, SO BOTS USE THEM 75% OF THE TIME, AND I GOT CONSTANTLY AIMBOTTED WITH THE LINK GUN ALT-FIRE!!!!!!!!! That was nasty!
