How do get into listen servers?

I have asked this question before but bo one was able to provide the answer: How can I get into listen games? I can get into the others fine, but when I click on the listen servers nothing happens. The screen shows the IP, the music plays, and then nothing. No load screen, nothing.

Someone suggested opening the correct ports, but I need a bit more clarification. Please help. Thank you.

Opening the correct ports only applies to the person hosting the server. It is very possible that whoever is running the listen server didnt open the ports correctly. Most people that host listen servers arent as committed to doing a server right so they may not know enough to open all the ports. In which case you're boned.
