NOOB UT2003 Startup problem with view

I've been playing UT and I'm about to get XAN, anyway I installed UT2003 and tried to play..... but my view is down at my feet. I prefer joystick play and use my mouse for freelook and turning. Is this the problem? I can get my view up by moving my mouse forward like usual, but it keeps wanting to return to down view. Very frustrating!!!
Any ideas would be appreciated. The sooner I fix this, the sooner I'll be fodder in the field for you pros. ))))
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem with my joystick. The key is that my user.ini had an extra axis mapped. I think the offending entry is JoyV= just get rid of what comes after the = My joystick didn't have this axis, so it set to a bogus value. In my case it was the twisting axis. Why this is default, I don't know. I don't see many joysticks that twist though.

        trouble finding user.ini file

You are right in thinking it is my joystick causing the problem. Once I disabled it the problem went away. But, I love my joystick and I will have it enabled!!!!! Anyway, I'm having problems finding the joyV= in a user.ini file. I did a search in windows for user.ini , maybe I should try searching for joyV= next time. I'll try more later tonight.
Thanks for the suggestions, I now have somewhere to hunt.

          Problem solved

          JohnDawg24,
You almost called it. I deleted everything behind Joyslider1=
JoyV was ok, but my Logitech WingMan Extreme joystick works great now that I took out the text for Joyslider1. No more trying to do battle while looking at my feet. I found the Joyslider1 under the System folder, file DefUser and file User. User was tied to my player profile.
Thanks for the help. I hope to play you someday.

Good Deal!! So do you have a twist axis, or are different axes mapped to different parts of the stick depending on the stick manufacturer?

Can you really use a joy stick? I mean can you dodge and strafe what about the enormous amounts of keybinds, weapon switching and speech etc.

BTW that is a serious question.

I have a twist axis and it may be causing me trouble too, my movement is really out of sync and jerky. I will have to try and remove mapping to JoyV also to see if that wouldn't fix it. All I know for sure is that my view is back to normal since I put my throttle (Joyslider1) at 50% instead of 100%. I could have deleted text behind Joyslider1= but as I wrote earlier I decided not to, may need it in the future. I don't know......
                So much to learn...

I don't know about the dodging with the joystick, haven't tried it yet. I'm afraid it won't work to well due to the way I turn left and right with my mouse instead of my joystick. I don't have a clue what a wall dodge is either, much to learn.
