I figured this out via another experiment: stand somewhere very high, say the top of the tower in Face3. Shoot your translocator disc into a safe place on the same level. Jump off the high place and just before you hit the ground, alt-fire to translocate. You do jump back to the top of the tower, but you splat with your accumulated momentum.

well... im wondering if he used a combo like so...

#1 facing backwards, uses the shield gun to gain some distance. this may or may not be counted as a jump

#2 in mid air because of this boost, he turns around and whips out the translocater and fires, and quickly transports

#3 does his first jump, still ascending

    #4 does translocator again

    #5 does his second jump

    #6 coninutes to use translocator...

    Re: Re: moving fast

I know how the adrenaline works. I like the give health one that takes you to 200 health. I was referring to non adrenaline speed tricks. Some maybe due to the mutator being used and some maybe someone doing a shield jump then switching to translocator in midair and somehow asending even higher using it.

you know that someone is using the speed combo (rather than a speed hack) because they will leave a glowing yellow "trail" behind them (maybe not at lowest graphic settings?)

    Goblin with the Q2 memories

I played a lot of that in college I know what you mean about feeling like some of the tactics in this game are kind of cheap, but really once you get the hang of more of the moves it won't seem so unbalanced. That has been my experience coming from mostly Q2 an Q3. I played some Unreal and some UT:GOTY, but not like well or anything, so some of the stuff that is traditional in this game seemed out of place to me at first, but I am getting used to it and the more you play it and discuss the crazy stuff you see in the game, the more you find how all the powerful strategies also tend to suck in the wrong situation. If the opponent knows what you're doing more than you do, it can seem like wizardry. Once you get enough tricks under your belt to be inventive and surprising you can get your nails on good in this arena too

Thanks for the good info. I found a better way to deal with translocators. I started playing team deathmatch and OMG too easy,
play to 60 and I get 25 -30 points of 60 on 5 on 5. Its more like q2 days, just have to practice the shock rifle. Its sort of cheap newbie trick like the BFG was in quake. But hey its part of the game.

You simply need to shieldjump backwards. It increases the length of your jump.

When I do it there seems to be a brief period when I reshoot the locator where I am visible.
I shoot it wait....then press rt mouse to tranlocate (which I'm not visible) but as soon as I relocate I am visible for the time it takes me to shoot to the next location. I can take tiny little shots so the interval is smaller but I don't think its the same as some of the Pros out there.

Some of these fast flag carriers will somehow come into the base almost invisible and even when they grab the flag they are hardly visible for a split second. The they seem to run faster than most people.

Some can translocate in the air and sort of climb higher and higher.

I need some good binds like one that alternates between translocatore and last weapon. Anyone know of a list of cool binds can be had?

I feel the only way to get them is by joining a clan.
clans are over rated, but it is great to have clan mates to frag with!!!!search the foruns here for vVv clan, theya re very cool peeps, and if you dont join/get drafted/chosen ,it is a great place to meet like minded folks, and gain some UT info.they have very nice forums, and very nice cool memebers.

the disappearing translocator tricks might be something to do with how fast you recieve information from outer sources. not sure though.

there are several ways to earn a bigger jump or a bigger height with a translocator. sometimes it has to do with during what period when you have reached ur jump peak that when you decide to comence the double-jump. translocating to gain height can be achieved by shooting your disc up high, wait for it to be at its peak, and then quickly tapping right mouse button and then left mouse, having your view pointed at same elevation (not at same time though, otherwise it brings you back to last weapon used)

The purple shockwave would be the Shock Combo, which is done using this:

To use it, use alternate fire on the Shock Rifle to launch the Shock projectile. Then shoot the projectile with the beam to make it explode.

Thanks for the reply. I think I messed up on citidel, I meant the map that has two towers ? Face classic I think. There is a mega health inbetween the two bases. The flag carriers can make it just about 1/2 way there in the air. Its much more than a double jump.

Mutators arghh! I played one that you float all over the place, kind of like walking on the moon. The maps that I was playing where I see super jumps seemed normal to me. I probably had to do something extra to do the big jumps. So your saying that a server can have triple instead of double verticle jumps?

I just want to play the game without all the tricks turned on. Double jumps are ok, but this space jumping is goofy.

Rockets and sniper are my strong points now. Only time I get taken down is by some ******* with that charged up purple gun or with that
BFG or what ever its called. I will crank 3 roxs then all of a sudden a purple beam comes out with a loud clap and presto I'm dead. I'm thinking what just hit me? I had 150 armour 100 health and I'm dead.

    Goblin072 answers (hopefully)

Goblin072 I hope I can answer some of your questions:

    Regarding stringing together double dodges:
Mutators like quad-jump and a modified umlimited-jump can make this multi-dodging rather fun. I was on a map with lo-grav and unlimited jumping. I could practically fly across the map. You just gotta watch how high you get.
On a more practical note, you can significantly improve your speed with the double dodge. Of course you'll want to double dodge forward ('cause that's the direction you're going) but in order to do that you gotta stop moving so you can double tap your forward key which pretty much negaits any gain you would have recieved. Instead, use sideways dodges. Swing left, then double dodge right. Overall you go forward and you never stopped running. Also it helps if you try to do this on downward slopes (upward slopes this is a waste of time) so use the little unevenness of the terrain to your advantage, flag/ball running will be much quicker. Only translocating around is faster.

    On CTF-Citidal
The route you descriped is my preferred flag running route 'cause it's faster and you just might manage to steal the opposing teams big armour. It has two drawbacks tho: often there is a sniper camping on the tower already who (if he's good) may take you out or at least severly hurt you, also the landing hurts. Usually it's fast enough and you're coming from behind the guy the first problem isn't too bad, and using the shield gun to soften your landing helps the second. Anyway, I double dodge off this tower, which will only get me to between the 1st and 2nd health vials on the bridge, not quite half way but not too bad. If there's a better way, I don't know it.

    The other map (CTF-Maul):
This jump can be done with the sheild gun. Remember that it has to be charged up some. I don't use this 'cause it will cost at least 35 health and there's a chance I'll screw it up.

I like UT2004 as it does allow people with good skill to level up beyond the newbie. But I can't say its as good as old quake2 in terms of overall speed and control of you character. The translocator is ok but not quite as nice as the grapple. I wish I could use it after I grab the flag.

One other thing. I have the wall jumps down pretty good. But is there a good way to hyper jump like in quake2? If I hit forward twice in a row you get the little boast and if you time your jump you get the boast + jump which moves you ahead fast but.... I can't seem to string them together to get a continous fast movement. Its more of a boast jump then go slow then boast jump again. Is there a way to keep it going without the slowdown after the jump? I miss being able to hyperjump and just keep going faster and faster.

on the citidel level some guys grab the flag and then somehow jump from the tower halfway to the other base before they land, then they kick in the adrenaline speed boost. How do they make that initial huge jump? I'm just guessing they do a shield jump but at an angle that launches them forward rather than up.

On another map (don't know the name) its a ctf map where the flag is
in a small round dome building. There is a rocket launcher in flag room and there is a slit window where you can overlook the oncomming enemy. Our flag carrier could somehow jump with the flag
into that tiny slit window. Even doing a double jump I can't come close to getting to the height needed to get to the window. How did he do it? he did it on a dead run, never stopped.
