    No CD Patch?

    Hello Forum,

I just UT04 yesterday, and my LAN buddy tells me there's a "no cd patch" I can download so I don't have to keep the disk in the rom bay to play. After searching online for the patch, and reading other forums, I'm confused about this patch. Some forums say that the patch was released by Atari, and some say it's a crack. I obviously, don't want to f* up my game, but being able to play the game w/out the CD would be cool.

What do you folks know about this patch? Is it a crack? Has there been a no-cd patch released that's "legal?" Any help here would be great kthxbye

there has been no patch released from atari. There is no official no cd patch yet. Beware of cracked no cd patches, they may have a program which steals your cd key.
An official no cd patch was released for UT 2003 about 6 months (or more?) after it came out. Probably about the same time period for UT 2004.

You could use a program (freeware) like Daemon Tools that will emulate a CD drive. You need another program like BlindWrite that will copy the CD to an image (.iso) file. You point Daemon Tools to that file and you're done.

I was unable to get BlindWrite to work on my system. Also, I've got the DVD version of 2004, so it's maybe a little more difficult than CD.

Spent a lot of time on it two weeks ago before giving up. A select few have done it. I'll probably try again before too long.

            No it's not safe...

If your caught you will be horsewhipped then be subject to chemical castratation (apparently this is most unpleasant)

It is even more unpleasant when they use diluted chemicals - it lasts much longer. Although some people have actually enjoyed the experience .....

as stated above, there is no official "no cd" patch out yet and won't be for many months.

ANyone tried burning the play CD? i'm not trying to pirate.. just want to keep a spare copy.. in case the original play CD got spoilt and i can't play the game anymore. Or does atari allows buyer to change spoilt cd?

that aint true: The DVD version does _not_ work if it's in a virtual (emulated) drive. it then gets some securom (protection) errors, and you're unable to play.

No-CD (or DVD ofc) patches can be downloaded or XDCCed from sites such as www.packetnews.com (which is a site that lists all IRC server providing (illigally copied) software. mostly a no-cd patch can be found on their networks aswell) or www.gamecopyworld.com

also, good patches don;t steal your serial: the crackgroups have way to much to lose if they'd do that!

I have it myself, and I haven't found anything that doesn't work properly

if u want it, email me about the patch

I have made a backup of the play DVD, but imho thats about the same as a copy of CD6.
copy all files to your harddrive, then make a folder 'patch' and copy a no-cd patch there.
burn with NERO (or summit) and: tadaa

I can't prove you wrong. I did find one person on a message board who claimed to have it working with the DVD version. IIRC he used Blindwrite and Daemon Tools -- but he had very specific versions (latest?) of each.

So, I don't know that it's certain one way or another. This guy could have been full of s**t and just flat out lying about it for kicks. Or, he really did get the DVD of 2004 to work from an image.

I have dvd SE and i did pay full price for it. my comp is the only one in the house who runs it (only one that can run it...)

and no-cd patch works i have one i cant give you any link to it youll have to find it your self. for the image i dont see why it would not work in Daemon tools i use this crack for lans and after the lan they all uninstall the game.

point here was one dude claiming to be able to run UT DVD in Daemon (ie. an image) WITHOUT the crack, which is utterly impossible!

with the crack installed, it should definetely work.

Bud, Did you take the original UT2004.exe in the system folder and rename it? Then place the no-cd UT2004.exe in the system folder. Should work fine.
