I suck, but somehow I can't stop playing

In onslaught I am getting about as many deaths as kills. Is that pretty good for a n00b who's only played unreal for a week?

Capture the flag is a entirely different story. I get creamed...I actually had a negative score tonight..Those guys are good with the translocator and I definetly am not as you can tell.

    Scoring -1 In CTF Rules!!

As long as you are having fun then you are doing well

It might be an idea to Spectate a couple of games and following a player at the top of the list around. You will learn quite a bit that way.

Go after the saying, practice makes perfect! No one can become a master of it within a week, well people who have too much spare time on their hands, now thats a different story

Just keep playing, watch your team mates at what they do, watch and specate!

Maybe purchase the ut2004 guide? give you some tips, although i dont think they help much! well to me anyway!

Have fun, keep practicing and enjoy yourself!

Onslaught, from my experience, probably has the highest percentage of new players on it's servers. I don't think it's surprising that you'd score better against people who've played about as much as you have. Conversely, there are some CTF and TDM servers that I know of that can be absolutely brutal. If you stumbled into one of those with only a week of playing the games, a -1 might qualify as a really good score.

You've got the right attitude about it, though! Keep on playing, and when someone's smacking you around that bad, see what you can learn from them. And when you're a good player, remember how it felt when you were getting smacked around and give those newbs a few tips and some encouragement.

I did that in 2k3. Stumbled into a pro InstaGib CTF game. Was not a pretty sight. I would have killed for a -1 score that day.

Some maps are also more forgiving than others. The tighter the space and the more players, the faster you'll get killed if you are fairly new. (One of the reasons why I won't play ONS Primeval without my fried there to team up with)

I agree with the "spectate a few matches" idea. I've been doing it, and it can at least help you get the feel of what and what not to do in certain maps/ONS overall. Sometimes, I do it just for the fun of it.....like late at night when I'm really not up to play, spectating is the next best thing.

I suck *** in this game, but I love it, too. I just don't go into pub servers, so my dignity is still somewhat intact.

Well I don't suck. At least I don't think I do. I just have this "SHOOT ME" sign on my back. And, I will admit, I can't hit the broadside of a barn while moving. I know my strenghts and I play them. If your having a good time, your playing the game the way it is intended, IMNSHO..

Instant action is a good thing for that. You can set up a game with bots of different skill levels to train on. Or you can make an empty game in which you can play with the weapons and vehicles to practice them. I've done that often, loading an empty game to test driving the vehicles over, around and off various aspects of the scenery to test their capabilities and what I can get away with. When you need to get to the bottom of a cliff, sometimes the best way is to drive right off it. Especially if you know you'll make it.

                        On good trainning tip:

Go into DM set the bots to the recommend lvl. and set a skill you think you can play at.
set to 25 kills to win then just play that skill lvl until you are winning & only have about 5 deaths. That is what i have done and i have been playing since Unreal. once UT'99 came out....

I'm on Masterful now and about to step up. Also just remember, you can be on GOD LIKe but there are those days when you just suck *** no matter how good you are. lol

Hey if you would like some trainning I would be more than willing to. I have trainned Several ppl t play UT effectively. 15 to my count but, really I just go through the stuff that you will figure out on your own but I tell you so you get it faster. Like Reading a math book and trying to learn it your self or having a Teacher teach it to you (Who knows what their doing). In the end you will know the same stuff, but jut how fast you get there, and really i can only show you the basic core. (Which btw will improve your kill count and lower yo death cout) movement, timing, Gun use, etc..

As with anything it takes practice. Many get discouraged...don't. Just remember that there is always gonna be somebody better then you and you better then them (eventually).

Learn from your mistakes and spectate that player kicking your butt and find out WHY HE DOES....I see a lot people whine cry "cheater" or "aimbot" and they have no clue on moves & strategies that keep you alive & on top.

If you want to win get serious, but if you ever lose having fun at the same time maybe it's time to quit.
