unstable during battle

hi....just got ut2k4. game runs well...... until action/combat. then video starts to slow down and flicker (blinking) and becomes very unstable during battle (single player mode). i'm using a P4@1.5 ghz & 1gb ram & 64mb NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 on win xp. just updated video drivers and loaded latest patch. doesn't help. also did all that applies here:

this is an awesome game and i sure would like to get it working properly.

yeah....i kinda figured that.....i guess i just wanted to hear someone else say it!......looks like i just may have to BREAK DOWN & SPEND SOME MONEY!
