How The Hell Do U Play The Game

    Hi everyone

Im a bit new to this so apologies if i sound like a muppet.

I have been playing unreal tournament on the servers agaisnt other people yet im rubbish.

I get shot once and die, when i shoot peopl iuts takes more than one shot for them to die?

Also everyone else seems to bounce around, i cant do that, plus some can fly, no idea how u do that.

Any advice coz im sick of getting my a@@ whoopped

    Cheers

No apologizing necessary. You can't learn if you don't ask questions, right?

I'll try my best to answer your questions, but your questions are a little vague...

    - It depends what weapon they are shooting you with and where the shot hits you. The lightning gun or sniper rifle can do "head shots" which normally kill you in one shot (unless you have more health/armor... more on this in a bit). And again, what weapon. If it's a triple rocket, flak cannon, shock combo, fully loaded bio-rifle, etc, they can kill you in one shot (unless you have more health/armor)

    - Health and armor play a huge role in fragging. There are kegs of health on some maps, armor, and even the small health vials can put your health over 100. I don't know exact damage numbers from weapons, but the more health/armor you have, the more damage you can take. Also, a player might be using the damage modifier (double damage).

    - Bouncing. The bouncing you are seeing, I'm guessing is people jumping, double jumping, dodge-jumping, and other variations on those. To double jump, simply press your jump key/button again once you are in the air AT or BEFORE you reach the max height of a jump. You'll know you did it because your player will grunt twice. To dodge, simply press your movement key/button twice quickly. Example using default setup: Tapping your W key twice quickly, would make you dodge forward; A to the left; S backwards; and D to the right. There are a bunch more variations on this, but the most basic is the dodge-jump. Do a dodge, and hit jump during your dodge (again, AT or BEFORE you hit the max height of a dodge).

    - Flying. I'm not sure what you mean on this one. I'm guessing it could be a low gravity map, a player using the translocator, or various jump pads in a map.

I hope that helps a little bit. The thing is to ask questions, browse the beginner forums here (look at the sticky threads at the top for various threads/articles to aid you in your quest of not getting whooped on as much). And moreso, practice, practice, practice.

Getting comfortable with the game isn't going to happen overnight... it will take days, weeks, or maybe months depending on your skill level and overall familiarity with first person shooters (FPS) in general.

Whatever you do, DON'T GIVE UP! Welcome to the forums, and hope you enjoy your stay.

i agree on that ...some people in TDM/DM just don't die (ok, i'm sort of exaggerating) but they can like kill three people surrounding him even though his body is already burning (which is a sign that he is low on health right?). he just jumps around owning everyone

on the advise part, spectate more often too. but play more often. see how many frags increases over time to see your gradual progress.

Haven't you done much Single Player yet? Try getting up on Ladder SP games in say "Experienced" or "Adept" difficulty. I would say that you need to get good enough to beat the AI bots first before you go online.

Wrong! Dont be fooled by this - it just means he's been hit. If he was stacked with health and armour, chances are he'll still have more than you

Doesn't it actually mean that he was headshotted by the LG and survived? That's the only time I've seen that happen.

                  Yes.

A headshot does about 140 damage with a Sniper rifle - 160 for Lightning gun. In many peoples opinions, the Shield system isnt right - and one of which is my opinion. if someone has 199 health (like in UTComp Warmup, most of the servers have 199, some 100) if you headshot them, theyre health will go down and they're head will go on fire.

If you hit someone with Rockets or Flak, if its a Robot character, sparks will come out. That does NOT mean someone is low. It just means that they've been hit.

Sometimes, when you pickup 100 shield, then fifty shield, equalling 150 Shield, if you get hit down to exactly 50 shield then pickup with 50 shield again, shots will go straight through the 50 Shield and go straight to your health. Well, something like that.

                    It's 120 / 140 for a HS, UTVC. 60*2 for sniper and 70*2 for LG.

LOL. I'm right there with ya. Atleast I was, but not as much as I was when I first started playing UT. It's just funny to me how so many of us said the same thing when we first started. The good thing is that there are so many great people in here that are so willing to be patient and help that it still blows my mind. Thanks everyone.

It sure does above 100 shield points...

And what MysTikal is talking about is a bug in the shield code.
