    Sockets not available with static meshes. Alternatives?

    I have a mechanic that allows the player to place static meshes into the world, and often onto other static meshes.

    I want to implement a 'snapping' feature, whereby the mesh will snap to a specific area on the other mesh, if it gets within a certain distance from it.

    My thoughts were to use sockets to add these connection points. However I've quickly realized that you can't use sockets with static meshes.

    Does anyone know of an alternative approach?
