    Blender polycount

    So I'm modeling a hat for Team Fortress 2 in Blender v2.71. On their website it says that the hats should be under 1000 polygons, but I'm not sure how to check that. I know it's on the top where it says faces, verts... but do I check that in edit mode or not? Beacouse if I'm not in edit mode there is 5025 verts, 4992 faces etc. but if I am in edit mode there is 51 verts, 40 faces etc. so which one actually specifies the polycount for an object (the only mesh in the document)? Also: polygons = faces right? Just wanna be sure that I'm looking at the right numbers :P and lastly, does adding subdevision affect the polycount? Thanks!
