    Future of BSP - is there one ?

    I like using BSP and find it useful but I was wondering if it would be contiued into the new UDK 4 ?

    Excuse me if this question appears stupid or has been answered elsewhere but I have been away from UDK for sometime, but now I am back.

    Thanks

    Maybe, but primarily as basic layout tool for quickly testing level concepts without having to wait for a modeler to produce matching mesh pieces.
    The days of BSP for ambitious productions ended already with the introduction of UE3, though it is of course still useful for simple games, flat areas in maps or retro stuff like HOLP.

    It would be sad to see it gone.

      Nobody knows about UE4 more than what we saw in the development walkthrough video.

        I'm sure there will be as most companies still use BSP for blocking their levels out for quick play testing. I really hope UE4 has a more mesh based bsp system though.

          Thank you, I think BSP is useful and great for testing purposes.

            Pretty sure there are people, but they are not allowed to talk about it.

                God I hope not, I'm tired of Ctrl+S and Ctrl+A issues

                  Take these two lines out of BaseInput.ini in Engine\Config:

                  Bindings=(Command="BRUSH ADD",Name=A,Control=True)
                  Bindings=(Command="BRUSH SUBTRACT",Name=S,Control=True)

                    I strongly doubt that brushes will be missing from UE4. I wouldn't expect them to do anything that UE3 didn't however, and I'd expect all those annoying issues with them to still exist.

                      I just wish they replace those brushes with simple geometric primitives.

                        Brushes are simple geometric primitives?

                          Hm. Guess I should explain it more clearly.
                          BSP are made using Brush (this red thing). It's pretty annoying at long run. What I meant is to add simple geometric primitives that you can manipulate in similar way as in any 3d package. And more important without compilation.
                          Also custom shapes cloud created more easily, similar to splines and in it's properties just setup height.
