    UDK and a renderfarm

    Hi all,

I wanted to know: can UDK use the benefits of a renderfarm? Can you distribute UDK related tasks to different slaves of a network?
If so, how does UDK need to be set up?

    Thanks a lot,

    Gibrril

The only thing in UDK that can benefit from a render farm is building lighting--that's what Swarm is for

it's a neat idea that I've toyed with a lot, but it's ultimately not worth the work. You have to reinstall to each machine every month, among other things.

We use a "renderfarm" here for building lighting - it's really great to be able to get your results back in minutes on a big, nasty complex lighting build.

If you're doing a big game with many levels then it's probably essential. Games like Dragon Age or other RPG's have such large levels there's a lot of lighting to render

            Thanks for the replies!

Is there any guide available on how to set up UDK for a render farm?

            Thanks a lot,

            Gibrril

UDK Central made a tutorial of how to properly set up swarm across multiple PCs here.
