    Video Card upgrade decision

Looking to upgrade from an 8800gt to either a 460gtx or 5850.

Any suggestions on which and why?

The reason I choose those is that I need to keep my upgrade low powerish and quiet. (plus under 150$)

That's a bit of a tough call; a 460 would serve just fine, but a 5850 would give you a very slight performance increase. Any specific brands of either card? But generally, I'd probably recommend the 460, as nVidia brings a good chunk of bells and whistles when it comes to video game dev, not to mention the onboard physx. (At least I'm pretty sure the 460s have the dedicated physx proc, I can't remember for certain, I've been out of date on the tech for probably close to a year now.)

nvidia fanboy here. years ago i bought a radeon 9800pro for 200£.was a pile of poo, overheated and wasnt good fps wise. since then i have always gone for nvidia and been very happy. currently have a 2 year old gtx260 896mb which cost 150£ 2 years ago.

iam currently ordering new cpu,mb,ram bundle and have thought about adding a new gpu aswell but from the little research ive done i would need to get atleast the 480 to see a noticeable increase over the card ive got.the 460 would be a great upgrade for you from a 8800gt. ull not be disapointed with the 460 if its basically a rebranded 260gtx with dx11.be warned whichever card u go for they are huge compared to older cards.

If I go with the 460, probably choose MSI or gigabyte since they seem the quietest. The 5850 would be an XFX.
