    the updates

Are the monthly udk updates installed via program update, or do I have to reinstall?

    It's a separate installation.

Yes, it doesn't replace your current installation. It is a separate install. A workflow for migrating a project to a new version is provided:

              install the update
copy anything you made or changed in the old one to the update
uninstall (or not) the old one

Yeah, I don't mind because I have tons of hard drive space.

I currently have 12 seperate installations, not including the two that are duplicated for actual projects

I could probably stand to get rid of a few. I'm just lazy about that sort of thing until I start running out of hard disk space.

That's when I usually buy a new machine...

I rename the installed folder from NAME to NAME_ReleaseMonth, then install the new one to NAME ( and copy in SVN ). This way my links/shortcuts are still correct and I can always go to a working copy of a previous install. if I feel I'm running low on space, I can always remove the oldest folder.

just make sure everything works with the new build before you commit to it.

tbh, it would have to be a major setback for anyone to not use this latests build though.

I can't wait to see what games are being released from UDK in about a year from now.
